I’m home after a few days away and the garden is transformed! The scent when I opened the car door was amazing! What a welcome home and then to see all your gorgeous roses too………..I’m a happy bunny😀 Some highlights
Desdemona, she just gets better and better, this is her 2nd year
Peony Duchesse de Nemours, exceptional scent!
A happy Bumblebee!
Clematis Nubia
Astrantia Buckland
Life's tragedy is that we get old too soon and wise too late.
Caught a blackbird in the school hall this morning and released outside. Had to climb over a bookcase and scoop it up with a tea towel. That’s was an eventful way to start the day!
Here’s Bathsheba, a third bloom on Royal Jubilee, Malvern Hills and Eustacia Vye starting to open up.
Beautiful pictures everyone! I think, @Bright star, your Desdemona has been the tipping point for me - I'm going to have to get my own!
In my garden, apart from the reliable Golden Showers, the only other rose to open so far is this little standard 'Royal Red' by my front door. Tiny (golf-ball sized) blooms, with a lovely shape. So this is my Rose of the day.
You won’t regret it @SeahorseFriend, it put a lot of growth on its 1st year and it’s much stronger this year. It just seems to be a healthy nicely balanced bushy rose.

Thank you so much for kind words! (I'm still learning to tag people in messages)

And also two that were in the garden of the house we moved in. I would be grateful if someone could help me to identify them.
It was cut to the ground, i think people that owned the property before us thought it would be easier to sell it without plants that people may consider hard to grow. Not sure. But seems like some of the roots stayed deep enough in the ground and roses just came back! One of the features of this peach colored rose seems to be that current year's growth leaves are wine colored. Perhaps this may help with identification.
Red one looks like a very classic rose , just with lighter center. Looks like it was briefly dipped in bleach .
I had white licorice in my basket yesterday, but decided to go for some 'older' roses. It's still on my wishlist though! Welcome to the rose thread - I grew up in Vancouver/Cortes Island in BC and remember the battles that our neighbours had with deer vs roses so your name made me laugh. We were hoping to go back to see family last year, but the pandemic put a stop to that.
Haha the deer battle never ends. "If you can't beat them, ... pot your roses" was my conclusion. Glad it gave you a laugh White licorice has such a great and interesting smell. It really does smell like licorice. And later as the bloom fades more like tarragon, I suppose. So almost like absinth!
Oh and a warm welcome to @Lena_vs_Deer, thanks for joining us, it’s always so interesting to share rose growing experiences with others across the globe. I’m so glad Earth Angel does well for you, a beautiful rose - I do read so many reports of it balling in both heat and rain, so you must have the ideal conditions for it there.
That must be it. I can't really figure out why it works for me. It rains here a lot, but we never have a truly cold winter. Maybe that's the case. I don't think it even falls asleep properly every year, more just slows down. It keeps producing buds late in November that just rot on a stem (or get eaten by deer in my case). This particular year it had a bit rougher time - the pot was constantly flooding despite the drainage, winter was way too rainy. Around March-mid April all new growth had shriveled and I thought it was the end of it. I trimmed it to 3 inches and was preparing to compost it sometime later, but it just grew back as you could see from the photo. So maybe as long as it's not too cold it does well even when it drowns?
My latest order arrived today from Trevor White, a lovely, healthy looking 'Gruss an Aachen'. I'm sure I've read some earlier posts where you say that you grow it or have grown it, but I can't find them; if so what has been your impression of it...(in fact those earlier posts might have tempted me to buy it).
Todays rose of the day is Sweet Syrie, almost out! I adore this rose and its absolutly covered in buds this year. A Better shot of Rosa des cistertiens beautifully opened.
Deep secret (we think!) As it ages. Needs a good blackspot blast today. Purple tiger starting to open (Styles exclusive) Just had a message my new Harkness 95th celebration arrives today. I couldnt resist it.
Anyone with Pheno geno roses open yet? My Natalija is looking likely to open over next week. Impressed so far, very healthy rose. I made the mistake of looking at the new ones on the company website and theres some stunners. I might email Trevor White and see if they plan to stock more, as im looking at big pots for 2022 (after the excellent 'road testing' of Mr Vine Eye ) and they are ideal.
I feel I need Desdemona now too with all the pics and scent notes, your all a bad (but excellent) influence! Thank you again everyone for sharing your lovely gardens and knowledge, it really is a delight.
