@Fire, my New Dawn is more like a hybrid tea shape and is as tall as the shed roof with very stiff, strong, upright shoots. N.B Marlorena suggested it is possibly not New Dawn after all.
I don't think so. Mine's getting better and better despite being sandwiched between a dwarf box hedge and a taller euronymus one behind. It must be getting on for about 10 years now. Feeding it this year has definitely made a difference.
@pitter-patter ... oh ok, I didn't know you got them from TCL, although I think the Sweet Dreams is good, they sell it, but the white one may not be Partridge as they don't sell it, but there is a similar one called 'Medeo'.. so if you also got this one from TCL then I would guess they've sent you that... although it's described as 'not fragrant'... but otherwise it looks the same.. does it repeat flower?..
@Eustace@Tack I must say I have not really taken to Susan William Ellis from the start.. but given DA recommended it for my windy spot I was hoping for someone to change my mind.. but having read your comments I feel rather reaffirmed not to get it.. shattering petals are the equivalent of weeding on my balcony.. I don’t really get weed in the pots but I can’t stand the fallen petals on the floor..
@Mr. Vine Eye Phew! I’m glad your Gabriel Oak is bouncing back.. I do like it very much. The colour is so vibrant that it’s challenging to take a photo without it looking oversaturated..
@Marlorena Thanks.. my GJ has not produced long shoots this year.. it has instead produced lots of side shoots and as a result gave me a beautifully bushy shrub this year. I don’t think I’ve done anything apart from pruning them a bit less in spring.. perhaps hard pruning triggers stronger basal breaks that end up shooting for the sky..?
By the way, my partner has ‘sweet dreams’ - and it’s such a beautiful and fragrant patio rose.. it genuinely looks like a mini version of a DA rose, although I believe it’s bred by Fryers.
Here’s a photo from last year..
@ @Fire I don’t think there is anything not to like about GJ.. ot produces a magnificent first flush but the subsequent flowering can be more patchy.. but the stunning colour and scent make it worthwhile.. I think it looks most impressive when grown up a wall..
Morning everyone. I posted this last week, but sadly no responses. I’ll have another go here.
Morning all. Passed by my village shop yesterday and saw this beauty. Any idea of a name? It’s got very few thorns, a delicious scent and the leaves are a paler green compared to most of my other roses. The roses come from a local, small independent nursery who don’t deal with the public direct so I’m hoping someone out there will know. They rarely have a label. @Marlorena? The third pic is the best likeness colour-wise. I’d describe as a buttery, creamy yellow with a hint of apricot in the centre 😕. Apologies for poor description. Thanks in advance everyone.
It could be it needs more sun @Victoria Sponge, Delbard’s own site does say it needs a sunny position 😎
Oh does it? I didn't check Delbard's site. Beales catalogue has it as part shade which is why I bought it. Still not open this AM but maybe if we get some sun.
You have given me an idea though, I will move PAZ into the back garden and replace with a yellow species rose I think🤔 Then it can hopefully combine as part of the hedge and give me the excitement of trying out a new kind of rose!
Twilight zone.. smoky purple.. difficult to capture in cam..
Eustacia vye..
Scentimental...
Gabriel Oak.. Young Lycidas...
Julia Child.. in different phases..
Lyda rose.. scent was minimal with initial blooms.. spicy scent getting stronger as plant matures.. (that's a really tall basal growth that has gone to one side)
Thank you, @Marlorena. I don’t know if it’s a repeat flowerer yet; it’s still in its first flush and I was going to let it produce hips. I might send an email to TCL to ask them.
I don’t think the patio rose has ever been given a name. I bought that one in the garden centre and it came with a generic label from Holland. I like it and it’s quite a healthy rose, so I don’t mind it not having a name.
