I am almost embarassed to reply @celcius_kkw . I received SusanW-E in error from DA and they told me to keep it. It never seemed like a pot rose to me and I found a tucked away spot in the garden for it and only recently began to appreciate it when I realised it was flowering. Dear, different, pure white blooms, very pretty. Where I am going with this is that I haven't got down to the little rose to smell it! It had totally passed me by that it is scented. I will remedy that when next in the garden if there are still blooms, I do think they go over quite quickly, they shatter while still white which is nice in the garden but perhaps messy on a balcony when you may want to deadhead in time. I haven't got her in a windy spot at all, on the contrary, so no help there either, sorry.
I have a neighbour with a small, south facing patio garden (rented), about 3x3m. It gets good sun, with six ft board fences. She is considering pink (strong or light) climbing roses (prepared to take roses with her if/when the move). Sifting through options, I am thinking of Gertrude J or New Dawn (I have never grown a pink rose, personally).
It made me wonder if a large-bloomed rose like GJ might seem a bit out of scale in a small space - a bit OTT. I wondered if a smaller bloom like New Dawn or small might seem to fit better. Is there a good pink, repeat rambler?
I guess GJ would be a good fit for strong colour, scent and cane extent. It would be nice to find one that bees can get into...
How about Strawberry Hill @Fireor Blush NoisetteThese are pictures from a few days ago, not today. BN is pinker than photo suggests. I would recommend both for a smallish fragrant pink climber. I am perhaps a bit hasty as they are only 1 year in the ground. I had high expectations of BN and it isn't disappointing. SH is growing on me more and more; healthy, easy to train and a good fragrance.
@pitter-patter ...lovely roses... I like your white one trailing in the pot... I'd say it's 'Partridge'.. there is a similar one called 'Grouse' but that's more pink.. I've just compared it with Michael Marriott's photo and it looks the same .. it's very fragrant..

..your potted roses are superb as usual... how are you managing GJ in a pot? has it thrown up long stems yet?..
