Rose of the Day has to be this splendid fellow, Leah Tutu. Big, but upright, heavily petalled flowers (which I didn't use to like but have branched out ), not damaged by the recent deluge, a fine scent that reminds me of the spiky HT beds of the eighties, I like that smell. An interesting mix having light green leaves too I think.
Nice flower from Fountain for a change
Goldbusch which is really hard to photograph but pretty much the right colour here. I have these 3 roses, not next to each other exactly but I planted them so they could be seen in combination. Fountain doesn't really assist much in this so I will either move Trumpeter or buy another red but apart from one at Lens I haven't seen any that enthuse me.
@Imprevu Again it depends what kind of density of bloom you are going for.
Crimson Glory is more open - more like a semi-double rather than a dense cup (I don't know the technical terms). It seems to do fine in rain (not balling). These pics are from today. This is a plant I put in a few years ago, on an arch. It's doing well. It looks quite scarlet/crimson/vermillion here, but generally are darker red. It might depend how much direct and intense sun it gets.
She seems to be fine with having her canes trained. Etoile is stiffer and breaks more easily in wind or when trying to ease canes down to be tied. Black spot has been fine. I'd say she is pretty easy going, not manically vigorous.

This is a CG I put in four or five years ago. It got Rose Replant problems as there was a very old Golden Showers there before. The growth showing (around five ft) is from this year's season and will bloom in the next month for the first time.
Leah Tutu looks fabulous @Victoria Sponge . That Pheno Geno is available from TCL, as is Heidi Klum, hmm @Nollie, I feel an order coming on. Talking of lilacs, this is Blue River but by tomorrow will be changing colour which I'd rather it didn't. Scent is gorgeous. I keep it under the eaves to stop rain blemishes, it is more resistant than Dioressence though.
My rose of the day is the first Barkarole (shrub) to open this year. The blooms last a very long time on the plant, which makes up for their late appearance. Thick, almost leathery petals. They would dry very well. A very elegant plant, with beautiful, almost black, buds, and dark plum new canes.

A new Etoile cane - similar in new cane colour to Barkarole. Some Etoile canes broke in the wind this last week, which is a shame. They are quite stiff at the joining point, even when young. I didn't tie them down in time.
It's a happy, vigrous plant that adores a lot of water.

Inherited cream. Endlessly elegant, I think. No new canes which is slightly concerning as there are usually loads. The base may be too shaded out this year. It does seem pretty happy, with bugger all help from me. I don't feed it or manure it or anything. It goes down under paving and the lawn next door. I let it be.
on the topic of lavender roses.. I wanted the same with good fragrance.. went for a poulsen bred rose.. Eleanor... but... its not for our weather, huge buds but balls badly in the rain.. already lost 2... will see if anything opens at all.. I got it as a potted rose a month ago, so still early days..
Watching the Hampton show, rosa Poetical Liz looks rather lovely. Good for bees too and quite a gentle gold. Does anyone have it? (Horrible name)
No, but I was eyeing it up as I like a nice yellow. Beales have it on their new roses list but I've only got one last rather dodgy space for a climber.
LT is a very fine yellow rose @Victoria Sponge. Has your President Armand Zinsch flowered yet, I feel sure you got that one? That or Souvenir de Marcel Proust is still on my back list.
@Tack and @cooldoc it seems getting a good lavender is quite tricky, especially if you want fragrance. And rain resistance. Maybe that’s why DA don’t go there..
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
@Nollie, President AZ has had a bud on for some weeks, showing colour but wasn't open this AM. It supposed to be okay in shade but I'm not so sure. I also snapped a cane off it by accident. Will post a pic when it opens.
@Tack How do you find Susan William Ellis in terms of the blooms, fragrance and growth habit? Would you recommend it for a pot? How does it fare in strong wind?
@m@"Mr. Vine Eye" I’ve quite liked my Gabriel Oak actually.. I planted it bare root last autumn.. the blooms are large and fragrant.. and so far I’ve had a good flush from it.. more to come
I think you should give it another chance..
On a different note, it seems everyone’s lady Emma Hamilton have been slow to flower.. mine only bloomed properly a week ago.. I was even contemplating removing it from my main balcony.. then the blooms came along serving a most delicious scent.. it instantly reminded why I bought it in the first place.. it’s that scent worth diving my entire nose into.. out of this world!
Gertrude Jekyll is doing really well as a shrub this year, tons of blooms. Strong scent, which I like, but slightly overpowering. I think I still prefer lady Em’s..
