It could be it needs more sun @Victoria Sponge, Delbard’s own site does say it needs a sunny position 😎
I’m very fond of GJ’s fragrance because it was the first rose I could actually smell really strongly and I use it to measure the strength of all other roses’ fragrance against @celcius_kkw, but I agree, LEH is the one you want to constantly stick your nose in, I love it.
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
@celcius_kkw For me, Susan William Ellis is a flop. The flowers are borne on weak stems and they droop. At the slightest wind/rain, the petals drop. However, I like the whiteness of the bloom and its shape.
Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth
@Fire the arch is 2.5 -2.8 meters high , length around 2 meters and 1 meter width. It is not installed yet because we are waiting on our wooden fence.
Regarding preference of bloom I have no clear preferences tbh. but a good tip of the windy spot. it is on a spot where we can have a lot of wind in the fall. When it is stormy weather we always need to pick up branches around that location . It has almost no protection of the elements . I prefer more crimson than a scarlet colour do you believe I need two plants?
@edhelka thank for the suggestion I like the feel of florentina. I’m finding already comments that it is easy to train so a bonus. So
.G an T Florentina Crimson Glory Prince Trust I have seen some close up of TdU and it is too thorny ( the base ) so that is out .
..if anyone wants a lavender pink coloured rose, with continuous bloom and good rain and wind resistance, that grows to around 5 feet tall, and the scent gets stronger with age... ..the typical 3 year thing.. it blooms right into October..
''Charles Rennie Mackintosh'... might still be available from DA..
..another lavender rose of shorter growth, with a stronger scent and rosette form is 'Magenta'.. likes manure...
I've had both of these in recent years.. [no surprise there then]...
It's just something to consider. I have a three metre wide arch, about a metre deep. I have planted climbers at both ends. I think the coverage will more even and quicker to fill a large space.
I guess one way would be to get one more vigorous rose or more smaller ones (including ramblers).
Crimson Glory might be too dark for your taste. It's really not crimson.
@celcius_kkw - oh I’ve no intention of getting rid of GO. Just noted that it’s really not performing as well as I would have expected. That said it has now started to grow some more flower buds.
Agree about Lady Emma Hamilton, really lovely strong, sweet, fruity scent. It’s nice having her in a pot at the front of the house as I go past it all the time.
May or may not keep the second one that’s still in the ground from last year. I might want to use the space for something else. Plus I’ve already got Lady of Shalott in the back garden, putting the two blooms together there’s not much to tell them apart appearance wise.
That said it could be quite nice to have the repeated shape and colour on the other side of the garden.
All of my new Austin's are now in bloom and new rose bed is starting to fill out nicely. Vanessa Bell & Lichfield Angel Roald Dahl and Ghislaine de Feligonde. Not getting much fragrance though at moment, all very light. Maybe because they are all 3 month old young plants? Does scent intensify as rose matures or is this it?
