@Lena_vs_Deer they look stunning, great balcony view too! I visited Seattle a few years back and it was beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
@Imprevu Gorgeous colour on great joy, I havent seen that one before.
I just did a quick wander roundh the garden, for your eyes only looks almost open plus brother Cadfael and rosa des cistertiens. Pics later once they are fully out.
I had white licorice in my basket yesterday, but decided to go for some 'older' roses. It's still on my wishlist though! Welcome to the rose thread - I grew up in Vancouver/Cortes Island in BC and remember the battles that our neighbours had with deer vs roses so your name made me laugh. We were hoping to go back to see family last year, but the pandemic put a stop to that.
Eglantyne and Olivia came joint first on who was to bloom first for me. I like the colour of Eglantyne, but I'm not sure I love it yet. Its difficult to blend, but I've a feeling I may love it more when all the other buds open.
Lots of other buds on my other roses are about to burst open. I planted a lot of bare roots over the winter and I'm a newbie to roses. I researched types of roses and i didn't get why vigour came up so much in the reviews. I totally get it now as I'm willing some to grow but they have hardly moved, silas Marner and Maid Marion are very sloth like in their growth for me.
This contrasts with Eustacia Vye and Gabriel Oak, who have grown realy well from bare root and seem so healthy, can't wait until they open up.
I now also see how colour and shape of leaves makes so much diffrence, my not yet flowering comte de chambord is not as attractive to look at as other roses also without blooms due to the colour and size of leaf, but I'm sure it will make up for it once all its buds open. I'm learning so much in my first year with roses, it's going to be a roller coaster!
Oh oh oh....I have a rose opened! First one, and the winner is.....Tottering-by-Gently!
Closely followed by Blue For You!
First to show colour but still not opened....Apple Jack!
And neck-and-neck....Dusky Maiden! Looking more pink in this pic than in real life...and I'm a little concerned that the leaves look a bit chlorosed?
Temple Bells is bidding for world domination....think this was described as a patio climber or groundcover rose....maybe I need to provide some support and let it go upwards....
Loving seeing everyone's gorgeous roses (and other plants!), it's giving me too many ideas! Might be looking for a climber in the autumn for a south-facing wall, but not sure what yet....waiting to see how the rest of the border develops.
My rose of the day is Jubilee Celebration. Looking a bit more pink than real, I guess because it is cloudy day today. It is growing better in second year and not so wimpy any more.
Other roses : Strawberry Hill with her glossy leaves.
Lady of Shalott whole plant. She is growing better this year. None of my roses have ideal condition to grow, so I am happy with a reasonable shape and flowers.
Augusta Louise in 3D, showing off her frilly dress. Though Young Lycidas in background is also competing for size and showing its 3D form.
But what I am most excited about today is that my dying daphne is showing new sign of life.
Thanks for the like on my Celebration rose @Omori Sorry it took so long, but the system had kicked me out and I didn't know, hadn't realised and had to sign back in ( was still a bit woosy the last two days from two pulled teeth😖) Here is a picture of my Blue for You to date, with masses of buds yet.
Princess Alexandra of Kent.. blooms change from coral pink to pink... faint scent in first year...
Augusta Luise/ Rachel.. glossy.. upright growth..
Shiny Velvet texture on Munstead wood compared to ink paper texture of Rosengrafin marie henriette
Eustacia Vye.. more blooms.. difficult to capture a full bush shot as she is surrounded by others... currently the most scented.. with the old blooms fading to light pink..
Poets wife...
Desdemona..
Eyes for you...
Lyda rose starting to open up.. seedling of Francis EL.. sure to grow huge.. nice delicate scent to it..
Gabriel Oak..
Boscobel.. waiting for her to join the blooming race with fellow austins.. agree the growth is not very bushy compared to others but she blooms her heart out once started..
