I’ve enjoyed catching up on the abundance of lovely gardens and roses during my few relaxing days away. Came back to discover a LOT of deadheading and clearing up to do! Judging by the water butts we did get some decent rain, but it must have been pretty hot too, some roses in permanent pots have dried out and suffered. The Prince was very crispy, but Marie Pavie and Blush Noisette have shrugged off the unexpected heatwave. Next time, better rig up some serious shade netting!
The ones in plastic pots I moved into the shade of the north wall are fine and presented me with some nice blooms:
Guy Savoy, I have surprised myself by really liking this very healthy, subtly striped rose. Not a strong fragrance, but a light-medium rosey/fruity whiff:
Eufemia, my pot-luck rose:
Heidi Klum, second year and maturing beautifully. Deserving of a place in the ground:
Chartreuse de Parme - I don’t know what to make of this newbie yet, the foliage is not very healthy, it’s famed fragrance is not expressing itself yet and the blooms are a muddled and rather brash bubblegum pink (the camera makes it look better than it is):
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
@edhelka, re Purple Lodge, unfortunately I can’t recall any specific notes exactly, except to say it was fragrant. My nose is still bunged up with a cold so maybe next week I could tell you! What do you get from it?
Oh and a warm welcome to @Lena_vs_Deer, thanks for joining us, it’s always so interesting to share rose growing experiences with others across the globe. I’m so glad Earth Angel does well for you, a beautiful rose - I do read so many reports of it balling in both heat and rain, so you must have the ideal conditions for it there.

@edhelka, thanks for sharing rain resistance reviews of roses. It is a very important feature to look for in roses. Enjoyed looking at all other plants too. Everything is looking lush.
@Nollie, you have now reminded of deadheading task. Might have to start it from next week.
@Athelas, flower carpet white is looking great with those purple flowers. Lovely combination.
Thanks @newbie77, it’s Nepeta x faassenii ‘Purrsian Blue’ — got to laugh at these names, I saw one called ‘Kitten Around’ in my GC the other day. It’s coming out nice and blue, and well ahead of lavender Hidcote which I have a long hedge of just around the corner. With the added bonus of a second flush later this year I hope.
@edhelka, wow on Snow Ballet, I must look it up! Also love the geraniums, wish I had space for more.
@Omori I need to hold up that Mayflower photo of yours to show my plant what it needs to do…
Glad you are back in your garden @Nollie, and just in time for more wonderful flowers.
Welcome @Lena_vs_Deer, you have a fantastic balcony there!
@Fire My mother loves them too. I gave her seeds when she visited two years ago but they haven't germinated and she wants more. My problem with them is that they usually grow through other plants and in spots where their colour clashes with other plants and I hate their taproots, getting them from some spots is almost impossible.
