...nice red shoots on old Ena.. and delighted she's developed some basals for you @Fire
.. great to see your Banksia rose @Littlegarden .. I love those little clusters of buds, all facing upwards..
@Imprevu Hiya.. and welcome to Roses, you are most welcome..
..how lucky to be close to Lens as some of us here like their roses very much and would enjoy growing some of them... I did grow Wollerton Old Hall north-west facing, which is a shady side and it grew very well for me, but yes you will get more blooms with more sun, but I felt it was adequate.. ... this may not be your colour but you might want to consider a rose called 'Florence Ducher' which is available from Roseraie Ducher in France... it's totally thornless, and has flexible canes... I'm growing mine on an obelisk, like the one in this picture but it would be suitable for an arch too..
I took Marie Pavie out of the greenhouse to wash off aphids (it got covered with them there), repot to a bigger pot (it was in a 5l pot over the winter) and to move outside. It looks like it is going to be the first rose to flower for me this year, any day now. The bud is already fragrant. A bud on Belle de Crecy
I'm beginning to wish I had Marie Pavie as a standard edhelka, looking at yours..
@Omori I watched that video of Yokohama English garden... what a fabulous melange of roses, can't imagine who looks after it all, but it does make me laugh when I see 'English Garden'... people will be very disappointed if they come here expecting to see something like that... of course it's a Japanese rose garden, maybe with Californian influences... it was missing the sweeping lawn and herbaceous border... but I did notice the Union flag on a bench, so that's nice..
@Marlorena I agree, I think the Japanese have romantic notions about the gentle English garden, etc, but yes it really is a Japanese take on the idea of an English garden. Lawns aren’t seen much in Japanese home gardens. I wish we had the names too.
@edhelka That standard is fabulous, I’ve been wanting a standard but not sure where I’d put it at this point without rearranging everything.
The standard is from TCL for €14... really good value for money. I think it is a good choice for this rose because it brings fragrant blooms to the nose height. I have it potted for now but it could be planted with perennials under it, taking almost no space.
@Marlorena thx for the welcome and suggestion. It seems a beautiful rose and certainly one to consider . Looking at their website they have a beautiful selection . I was not even aware a pink Ghislaine de F. existed.
Lens has indeed really nice roses . Too much choice tbh 😉 there is also a wishlist for the frontgarden but I ‘m still not sure on the colour scheme. ( I like bouquet parfait, Charles Emp, Rush, Comtesse D oultremont and so much more) They are opening back for visitors in June after this strange year of lock down.
Morning all --pics ( not great light or resolution of my 3). Doesn't look like there is too much damage once i took off some of the broken twigs , but although I can see a very slim bud or two on ab fab and easy does it I definitely don't think my new roses will have too many flowers their first season! Sadly after being relatively aphid free they had a few yesterday, will have to patrol from next week in case it escalates. I don't know how to do a neat tiling/montage of photos like some others on here , so sorry for the picture sizes.
@Desi_in_London, your plants are looking good. Why did you leave so much space in pot without soil/compost. May be this winter you can take plants out and add more planting material. For photos collage, I either use this feature in phone or Google photos, though I admit I am a bit forgetful and just load photos.

What a pity they didn't name the roses though..

Easy does it
Absolutely fabulous:
Chandos Beauty:
AbFab obviously lives up to its name - is it suitable for a pot?
Also Ebb Tide or Diamond Eyes - I know several people have these. Any views on their relative merits?
Thanks.
