@peteS if the mix was loose in the pot, you might have just hit on the problem, as air pockets are problematic, hope it does better in the ground for you. @Mr. Vine Eye thst chart of yours is totally different to the RHS one I usually consult, no wonder diagnostics can be tricky!
Stormy Weather now taking off. I think the cold and wild temperature swings are affecting petal colour, this one is more pink this year too, instead of the usual burgundy/purple. The colour balance of the second photo has not been altered, honest!
Noella Nabonnand, well I knew it was going to be more of a pinky red, but pretty bionic! Not the most sophisticated of blooms, but if it as vigorous a climber as it says, it’s going to pack a punch at the back of the border:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Ive braved a secret garden club order again, despite being unimpressed with the last batch. They had some cheaper alpines / ground cover for my new path and with the 25% discount was reasonable so I shall chance it, see if its improved. Ive never had issues with refunds at least!
On a related "bad influence" note, I picked up some summer bedding plugs (Bacopa, nemesia and some bits) in gardening directs sale, and they were excellent as well - brilliantly clever packaging and lovely healthy plugs that are twice the size already. Im a sucker for the GW "Just pay postage!" offers as well, had some good ones through that, poly greenhouse bursting at the seams
Talking of temperature swings, we have just experienced a thunderously fierce hailstorm! I remember one hit Girona in May a few years ago, they were the size of golf balls, cracked car windscreens and caused a major flood. Fortunately these were regular size, but rose foliage taken a bit of a hit.

Contemplating trying out volcanic rock dust…@Edhelka I think you were trying this?
I posted a comment on to a completely random discussion that had nothing to do with what I was posting about at all!
