@Victoria Sponge and @Marlorena it was a lovely splash of yellow and a nice change from all the magnolias and rhododendrons that are currently in bloom.
Here some photos of the roses I shared last year
Cecile Brunner - lots of buds (the one in Wisley had already one open bloom last week)
Lucky - gets the prize for the best performer so far
Mystery patio rose - maybe I post when it’s in bloom and identify it?
Laura Ford looked lovely until last week, nice height, lots of buds and then a deer had breakfast
@Nollie Upright habit but not HT-ish. Unfortunately, I can't tell you anything about the heat/sun resistance, we had a very wet June and July last year. I expect it to grow bigger than Ebb Tide.
@Obelixx, yes I do. RdeR is a pretty compact rose for a portland/damask, 90x90cm max. I have mine in a raised pot at the moment, where I can appreciate the small blooms and the fragrance. It’s only a year old though, so far pretty healthy with only a touch of the ‘damask crud’ at the end of last year on the lower leaves. Here the first bloom this year, a bit squished by the foliage:
Julia Child, aka Absolutely Fabulous just starting, will be a total bloom machine when it gets going:
Diamond Eyes in the rain, a patio rose from Weeks, at the front of the border:
Another of Excellenz von Schubert, I am really liking this newbie so far, exquisite little blooms and lovely, clean pointed leaves:
And another of that The Prince bloom. Interesting, the first bloom last year was a deep, dusky maroon, this year..
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
I bought a trio of Eglantyne earlier in the year, but took a while to plant them. The one in the pic ended up behind a mountain of plants I need to find room for and has ended up a bit leggy and weak whilst climbing for the light. I've finally got them planted, should I cut back the leggy growth or just live with it?
@edhelka, thanks, I had in my head you had had it longer, like during the hot summer of 2019, but the height indication is useful. It certainly does look as if Purple Lodge will get bigger so I will just go on size.
@Rickyjones24 I would just let those longer canes be just now, then after they have bloomed, cut to just above a good set of leaves to the height you want. Roses are pretty amenable to cutting back at the ‘wrong’ time, but you will delay blooming as a new shoot/bud will have to develop.
