@Suesyn ..such a great rose isn't it? along with Etoile de Hollande... for walls etc..
@JessicaS .. so much going on in your garden, and I love the photo of the gravel path, so cleverly done that..
@peteS .. not getting any better is it Pete... hard to believe that rose is one of the foundation roses for all DA's red / crimson roses,... apparently it was a hybridist's dream back in those days..
@newbie77 and @Nollie. I described the colour incorrectly so I don’t think it’s Madame IP now. The rose is more of dark pink purple. Still a mystery then.
This a cutting which I took last autumn. It's my first attempt at taking a rose cutting and I probably made it too short, it's only about 15cm tall. As you can see it has a bud on it and I don't know what to do with it now. I potted it on into this tall pot and although the roots looked OK I thought it would be a while before it was big enough to flower and its certainly not big enough to plant out. Can someone give me some advice please.
@Ilikeplants whatever be your rose - quite fragrant, large flowers is lovely. Looking forward to see your rose in bloom and then we can try guessing the name.
@Marlorena I've been on Findmerose recently and brought up details of Dusky Maiden in the 'Member Ratings' section, and there were a couple of interesting points...on 'Disease resistance' the score was Excellent-, which really couldn't be any further away from my own experience of it last year...but interestingly the 'Cold hardy' score was only Fair. Which might point to a combination of being ravaged by disease followed by a bitterly cold winter being enough to practically finish the poor thing off.
Cold and rainy today, the garden doesn’t know whether it’s coming or going, but so far, the massive thunderstorms predicted have not landed. I can see them threatening from the Pyrenees to the North.
@JessicaS your garden looks so professional and neat, I like your short fence/border edging, could do with something like that to discourage my boy from treating the new rose bed as a cosy place to lie.
Great to see your Mme. AC, @Suesyn, I have a newbie this year, but it has a lot of growing to do..
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
@Omori, sorry to hear you had a bad reaction to your jab. OH has a very robust constitution and is never ill, but spent a day in bed feeling terrible after the AZ. I’m a bit younger so still waiting. They are incredibly slow here, barely got beyond the over 70’s in some areas, but at least we managed to bully them into putting us on a list, which was an achievement, neither of us being entitled to the equivalent of NHS care.
