Hi all, got out and did some gardening. It’s all looking tidier again. I’ve noticed some foxgloves coming up, must be from last years’ selfseeds. Main job today was tidying up the geranium x cantabrigiense, removing the seed heads. Wish I’d realised sooner that the flowered stems just pull off really easily from the base with a quick tug, no need to cut - would have saved me a lot of time!

Vanessa Bell has reappeared
Another new Lady Emma looking very orange!
Malvern Hills from inside the French doors. Dangling very prettily.
..this rose nearly died in Spring, a poor specimen, so I removed and repotted... it's taken a long time but worth it.. wonderfully fragrant.. 'The Anniversary Rose'.. ['Dee Lish'.. 'Line Renaud']...
Marie Pavie is a serious contender for my New Rose of the Year Award 🏆
It’s already 3 x 3.5ft after only 3 months, healthy, gently wafting fragrance, almost continuously and generously in bloom. It’s mostly got over the earlier badly ageing/ crispy bloom phase. I can see why this is often recommended as a hedging rose, it would look fabulous lining a walkway, but a pair framing my front door looks good too:

I hope everyone is getting some so much needed rain today.
'Amazing Day', strong, sweet fragrance And some non-rosy flowers to keep it going... Providing fragrance around my seating area. Clematis integrifolia Geranium Dilys - spreading a lot but very low growing, doesn't smother other plants. A good groundcover, I think. Some other bits
Wonderful roses around..and the perennials.. garden is very lively at this time for everyone I guess.. Had to catch up all the pages post night shifts..
Cases in hospitals going up despite the total numbers declining with mostly un-vaccinated cases. Please do reconsider taking the vaccine if anyone has not taken it. Nothing is 100% efficacious but every bit helps.
sorry about the statement above, just my personal view, back to roses
@edhelka Amazing day looks lovely and its fragrant.. How is the flowering habit, in singles or clusters like austins? Good repeat?
country parson vs Nye bevan @Marlorena I feel they are similar in colour not sure about other growth characteristics
@dominia30 I have 3 of them from poulsen. I think the newer ones look more like floribunda rather than shrub form. And yes, the new ones do have upright flowers, good disease resistance and scent. However, most of my Austins have more pleasing and strong scent than these. All 3 are in their first year, so may be a bit too early to give a proper verdict.
few of my blooms, taken before the storm..
Mutated Desdemona with frilly edges and yellowy
Trish (Renaissance) edges burn in full sun, good for shade I guess
Austins.. Young Lycidas, Jubilee celebration, Lady EM.. all of 'em droops in the rain.
Grafin Diana is such a good rose for rain/sun and its upright blooms, is it only you and me that have it @cooldoc? It's so much richer and darker in colour than photos suggest.
Not enough rain here but the wind broke this, The Prince canes are brittle, again pic is not dark enough. My very first Birthe Kjaer, a Renaissance rose. Justa Clem, Thomas Edison dahlia, Carminia and Utopia
.. all very nice and varied.. great shot of the Butterfly too..
@cooldoc .. I agree with you and I'm hoping we get a 3rd vaccine as I think we'll need it for all these variants.. thank you and others for your work in hospital during these crucial times..
.. Nye Bevan and The Country Parson are totally different apart from colour which is similar.. NB is paler and is pleasantly scented on warm days, The CP has a stronger scent on good days but too thorny to manage for me, although it has constant rebloom abilities... ... NB is much like 'Imogen' it seems, in every way, and I doubt anyone would want both.. Too soon to be definitive though as I'm not sure how well it repeats at this point..
So far, I'm not putting either in the front rank at Chez Moi..
@cooldoc It's a bushy HT, blooms on strong stems, mostly single, some in small clusters (3-4). It dislikes wet weather so better to cut and take inside when it's humid or rainy. The blooms have a huge number of petals and open slowly, giving interest over many days. The pink centres only get visible when the blooms are mostly open. Hard to say about the repeat but it looks good so far.
