I've been away for 5 days and come home to the start of the roses. It really made me smile.
Arthur Bell on my structure is looking and smelling gorgeous. My other two climbers at each end are making a dash for the sky this year so hoping I will be able to start their horizontal growth as well soon. Rhapsody in Blue -
Eyes for you - ants enjoying the aphids (I presume)
For your eyes only - it has gone tripled in size but something has munched on the petals.
As well as the larger alliums I also have lots of smaller ones, a pink (which I think is Eros) and a yellow but they are like weeds and I'm going to have to take a lot of them out.
This is my mystery rose. I cut it down to the ground 6 years ago and it's in a corner between the gatepost and the wall so doesn't get much rain. I have neglected and mis treated it but it still produces these enormous blooms. Any ideas what it might be so I can know what I should be doing to it.
I’m back! 12 pages to catch up on. Lovely photos all, many of you are well ahead of me. It was so warm where we were that I thought for sure I’d have missed several roses first blooms but actually it was only one! Must have been a lot cooler over here while we were away.
@celcius_kkw - those weeds are a pain, but on the plus side they do eventually give up for the year, and while we’ve still got a lot of them coming up in areas we cleared last year, it’s still considerably easier to dig and clear planting areas now as there’s a lot less of it in the ground.
First flower on Rhapsody in Blue, officially my second rose to flower after Kew Gardens
Think there’s a good chance of a Desdemona bloom tomorrow!
Same for Royal Jubilee
@Katsa I am pleased with the Kew Gardens, thanks. But if you thought that was doing well, check out my Bathsheba cuttings:
Those are 6 months old, started in December. The new growth on the largest is arm length. I just snipped buds off them both. Can tell she wants to climb! Will be another vigorous own root. I must move it from the 11cm pot into a 3l rose one in the next few days. Just need more compost first. Might have to make a small trellis to support it as well!
Lovely @Mr. Vine Eye . I was wondering if I could trying growing on rose cuttings on an indoor window sill. I think my three Etoile attempts from a few months ago have failed already.
@Fire - Kew Gardens was outside the whole time. But when I emptied the Bathsheba cuttings out of their pot they only had small roots, so I brought them inside in 9cm pots. They’ve grown well on the windowsill. The larger one was ready to pot on into an 11cm but the smaller wasn’t at that point. Probably is now.
@Suesyn...I hope someone does have some idea as to what it is, because it's a beauty. I've purposely gone out and bought a few roses like that over the last couple of years (all failed unfortunately due to BS or rain intolerance...but I keep trying) as it reminds me of a 70's garden, filled with voluptuous hybrid teas.
Definitely agree that some Austin's deteriorate after just a few years and have to be taken out. For me these have included Perdita, L D Braithwaite, Pat Austin and Crocus Rose.

My lupins are also ready to take over too!

Some alliums from me.
