@Nollie yes the red one I ment. Thank you. They are chicken manure pellets, I will do what you said now. Thank you for the advise. I’m moving soon so will have to leave the climber which is a shame
I had to post and share my excitement, styles order arrived today, wow look at the Highgrove thats arrived! Im delighted with it. I counted over 20 buds.
Does anyone else have Gabriel Oak and do you like it? We chose it
because it ticked all the boxes which it does - except for COLOUR. DA
call it 'deep pink' but it's really an ultra bright fluorescent pink and
will have to be moved way back out of eyeball-searing range. Any other
suggestions for a deep pink or crimson/red shrub rose, not too big and
with upright flowers?
@dominia30 Yes, I like it, I bought one last year and three more in the autumn I love the colour mix - bright, almost red centres, then deep warm pink, and then cold pink, almost lavender edges. Interestingly, I feel that the colours are warmer and brighter this year. Quite probably, they can change slightly, depending on the weather. If you want something similar but slightly less bright, maybe look into 'Princess Anne'. Another option would be 'Ivor's Rose' but that could be too big for you.
What a massive amazing catch up to come back to after vacation!!
I love how from week to week there seems to be a shift in palette sometimes it’s more pinks, sometimes white … this time it seems a generous portion of salmon and blush pink! So I’ll add one to it
Lovely Highgrove @JessicaS! I have a good non rain-spoilt flower at the moment and was going to post it for you but no need! I hope it does well for you and you post photos when it situ
@dominia30 I know what you mean about Gabriel Oak, it can look a bit garish in certain circumstances. With other colourful flowers it’s probably fine, but I would find it difficult to place in my garden so don’t have it for that reason. It might look good with cool lilacs/lavender though. The only DA rose I can think of in the deep pink/red range, with reasonably upright blooms, is Darcy Bussell, I love her blooms, but if you have a low tolerance for blackspot that’s not the one for you! Would a modern hybrid tea work? Newer cultivars are bushier and less stick-like..
First decent bloom on La Rose de Molinard for ages:
It’s been rather disappointing this year, lots of blooms spoilt by the weather, very small or or failing to open properly, like this:
New bare root this year, Excellenz von Schubert, has been resting for a while but has suddenly put on a huge growth spurt and I’m looking forward to all those miniature buds turn into blooms:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.

My Rozanne are planted in front of well established mature shrubs so they are under control.
I am thinking about getting azure rush to plant with roses as it is supposed to be less aggressive.
