@Nollie thank you - I hadn't thought to do that. I got it from Tuincentrum Lottum as part of a bundle of bare root roses last year. I've always found them very easy to deal with so I'll get in touch with them. It is pretty isn't it - smells wonderful!
@Sammymummy I’m sure there are lots of roses that would suit your ‘smaller/manageable and less thorny than EdH’ requirements, but if you want to stick with red, The Prince’s Trust might suit you well. I only had it for a season, but entirely wrong plant, wrong place - too hot here, especially as I had it on my ‘south-facing hot stone wall of death’! It would be much happier in your situation and is said to be shade tolerant. The large clusters of blooms were very pretty, it appeared healthy and willing to grow, the canes were fairly flexible so should be easy to train, about average for thorns, scent not very strong, but pleasant. I found a couple of early photos taken in May of it’s first year, bloom colour should be darker in the UK:

Yesterday at school the Year 6s came back in to have a belated last day. Was a lot of fun - played games, had a water fight, signed shirts and watched the leavers assembly altogether. I was a prime target in the water fight so got absolutely soaked! 😅
Was great to see them all and have a chance for them and us to do proper goodbyes. Actually feels like the end of term now - even though it’s already half way through the summer holiday! Surprised with it being the middle of summer but almost all of them were there.
Spotted this passing through the garden. Triple break on this Lady of Shalott cane. She's done well this year. Starting to get a lot of aphids right now but my ladybirds have sent a detachment from the sunflower over to her.
Oh, thank you @Nollie! If only we could swap Etoile and The Prince’s Trust 😄 I don’t mind non-red but I have a New Dawn on the other side so would like a non-pink.
Sounds like a lovely, but rather emotional day @Mr. Vine Eye. At least being the target of the water fight probably hid those tears in the corner of your eyes 😆
@Sammymummy, I’m afraid my PT has already gone to the great compost heap in the sky! If you are not fixed on red that gives you more options of course, so hopefully you will get some other suggestions.

That does sound like a great day and a job well done @Mr. Vine Eye
A peculiar day here as my OH has gone into the office for the first time since March 2020. It's very quiet and a mornng potter outside was a delight. Everything is coming on strongly on the patio. The highlights for me are

@Tack I do believe you have a superb skill at growing potted roses and/or a secret magic fairy dust that you sprinkle on them! As much as I love my Prince it’s never been covered with so many buds and blooms as yours, fabulous.
