It’s so lovely to see everyone’s roses. Mine are still far away from blossoming... not even a hint of a bud... but they were only planted bare root in late March, so I supposed, it would be expected. Below is my Kew Gardens, growing nicely:)
This has certainly been the spring that slowed everything down. I’m sure your bare roots will be galloping away soon @Oliya.
About Harkness Roses, I just saw that they have their virtual Chelsea stand open until 23rd May at Woodlands Plant Centre in Upper Caldecote. I might go and have a look as I’m not far from there.
@Athelas I've looked at their website a few times, but I've always come away lacking that urge to buy; it's so dull. You would've thought by now they had realised the advantages of having a good quality, beautifully imaged website. I'm sure DA's website has inspired people to impulse buy before now (it certainly has done for me), purely on the strength of it's quality and presentation.
DA website is indeed glossy and beautifully presented and it’s inspired me and I’m sure many of us to spent many happy hours and money exploring it.😍 The flip side is all that gloss and PR comes at a price, as we pay premium price’s for their roses. Not that it’s going to put me off buying from them in the future😂.
Life's tragedy is that we get old too soon and wise too late.
I must admit on the subject of Harkness Roses, I've got Sweet Syrie and its outstanding. Big buds so not too long until pics I hope! The website isnt the most exciting though agreed. I like to see pictures of roses in situ, really helps inspire a bit of impulse buying! EDIT: Just had a look, that The 95th Celebration Rose is rather pretty. Anyone tried it?
Quality wise got to say, im very impressed with the cottage memories bare roots I brought in Autumn, they are all doing very well especially at such a good price. Lavender ice is covered in buds already and ebb tide is nice and lush. I got some JParker cheapies as well but they are all looking a bit scruffy in comparison, will see how they do as they progress.
@edhelka Regarding your newly delivered roses from TW's, have you taken them out of their pot yet. The compost in mine seems rather loose (unless it's just the top dressing) so I'm a bit wary and I wouldn't want to do any root damage if it all crumbles away. On other websites it advises you not to take roses out of their pots before mid June as many have not long been potted up at this stage of the year.
Yes I've said this a few times, that presentation is very important and one of the reasons that people are prepared to pay more for DA. Even for the same roses they could get much cheaper elsewhere - ones from other breeders.
They display them well with good quality photos on a fairly easy to use website (although the filter function still doesn't work properly)
Harkness roses are very good, but I don’t think I’d bother with the large Chelsea pots. I recall last year people were disappointed with the size vs cost.
Might as well have some garden photos.. ..my Dry/Gravel garden.. there are roses in here, but it's a hostile place until established... Weeks Roses from the U.S. seem to do well, 'Wild Blue Yonder' is in here somewhere, and growing quickly - surprisingly.. it's a struggle for Austins..
..I like a good colour clash... Helianthemum 'Fire Dragon'. / Rhodanthemum 'Marrakech'
..quite warm in the sun this morning here.. over 90 in the greenhouse..
Marvellous looking border...I feel the urge to know what the plants are, particularly the purple and white ones...oh and the grass like one at the back.

They also name their roses very well.
