Thank you. Cooldoc. Yes I have seen the wonderful pictures and just can’t wait for mine to bloom. Am very impatient. Just wanted to make sure I was doing everything right and this is the best place to ask for advice.
'Agnes Schilliger', day by day (13/6, 14/6, 15/6) + a new bloom Take ages to open, maybe it won't open fully, but it makes the bloom long-lasting (they look good in all stages). Extremely fragrant, although it's not always there, it needs sun shining on it. My first impression was raspberries and spice (before checking HMF). HMF says cinnamon, raspberries, spice, strawberries. And now I can clearly smell the cinnamon in it, not the aromatic top note but deep, sharp, spicy cinnamon. 'Saphir', another newbie Tantau actually have two roses of this name (they recycle names), this is the 2015 shrub. Mild fragrance, interesting colour. 'Purple Skyliner' 'Eyes for You', veronica, g. Rozanne
Interesting what you are all saying re Desdemona, there are some comments/photos on HMF re warmer tones, some photos from France of it looking rather yellow! Maybe it’s a heat thing.

Hello @Shenny, the only daft question is the one never asked 😊 Sometimes, for exhibition purposes, smaller, side buds are nipped off a whole range of flowers so all the energy goes into producing one big, prizewinning bloom, but in the garden, as cooldoc says, the more the merrier! Here’s what you have to look forward to - multiple blooms on a stem of The Pilgrim: [not my photo, borrowed off t’internet]

I would definitely say Desi has a faint pink flush when it first opens.
@Shenny, with the floribundas Multi headed rose blooms) I’m a bit fussy about pruning off each flower as it goes over as some flowers are heavy and the rose branches start to flop over. I then prune down the stem to a pair of leaves. I’ve got to have something to fill the time now I’ve retired!😉
Life's tragedy is that we get old too soon and wise too late.
@pitter-patter -- just coming back on easy does it -- so having written that mine was looking more orange than yours, today it has some shades of pink. Maybe my flower wasn't "old" enough before. Also, don't know if you were asking Katsa about the fragrance on this one, but I definitely sensed a fruity fragrance when the flower first opened. Its faded as the flowers have aged. My OH could not smell it ( at any stage). To me the fragrance is medium at best in intensity, ( eg vs Chandos beauty where there is only one - huge- bloom fully open and i get a waft from about 6 feet away) Chandos beauty ( before rain blows it to smithereens tomorrow )
That's a bit tricky @Fire, how old is your Etoile, 2 yrs? If so, it should be able to manage without watering for another couple of days, we have thunderstorms forecast by Thursday I believe. If I had to choose, I'd save the rose, as the bees will just find another home.
For some reason, in my garden established plants, trees and shrubs still need watering through the summer - even eight years in. My Ena - eight years old - still needs watering. Within two days of a deep water, it puts on huge growth, so it is worth doing. They stall and look sad, the leaves go yellow without water. I'm not remotely on sandy soil so I don't know why it drains so fast.
