A few more of my roses now flowering... @iaincd Can you tell me what the lovely purple starfish-shaped plant is in the upper left corner of your photo? Not familiar with it and it's quite striking!
OMG, it took me nearly 2 hours to catch up to the end of my favorite discussion. Hard to believe that was just 1 month's posting! Well worth the journey however. Some breathtaking blooms shared here. As always, the skill and perfect weather in the UK for growing spectabular roses never ceases to amaze me.
@PeggyTX the lovely purple is Allium christophii , had it myself this year and its lovely.
Its been horrendously dry heat today and yesturday. My hulthemias are unphased (yet to find anything that does phase them!) But Austins Brother Cadfael which is covered in blooms is balling and petals crisping in heat. Its never done that before. I assume its not needing more water and its just the heat...? Pheno geno natalija doing well despite heat now its rooted well and looks to be undamaged.
Also confession; I was going to be good and not buy more roses this season but was given gardening money as a birthday gift, so of course I was straight on styles and ordered nostalgia and birthday boy that I was swooning over in the nursery yesturday! Guilt free roses!
@PeggyTX Hello, sorry I hadn't been on here for a day or so but, yes, as others have said, its allium christophii - huge metallic purple balls and I had ten of them all together so they made quite a show! Only just starting to fade now.
Lovely selection @newbie77 and great cluster on Versigny and I’m right jealous of the colour of your Lady Em @Omori!
A bit of crisping, smaller blooms and lower petal count is the norm here in my hot summers, but an extra water late in the evening doesn’t go amiss @JessicaS. A fine misting of water over the whole rose bush very early in the morning is also good for rehydration - in the morning it evaporates before the sun hits so doesn’t usually cause fungal issues. If you have very hard water that causes foliage spotting, you can mist the ground below and around.
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Lovely pictures @Omori. I hadn't realised you have WOH, how old is yours? Mine is growing monster canes at the moment which are luckily very pliable. That looks like a very good hydrangea behind.
Yup, been out, the mornings are lovely up till about 9.30.
Lady of Shalott, Grafin Diana, Velvet Fragrance (my very first bloom) and Wildberry. A lovely scented lot
