I'd not heard of the sport 'Comtessa', so it'll be interesting to see how that compares,. it looks quite nice..
.. here's an update on 'Heritage'.. a DA rose I first grew circa 1986, the first Austin I bought. I'm reminded of how good it was. I don't think they sell it now but that doesn't mean 'new' is better..
..it's strongly scented, quite sweet, myrrh like... healthy foliage for the time of year, grows quickly and makes a decent plant in the first year.. rebloom is quick, growth is vigorous and I could probably use it on an obelisk... an added bonus - it's virtually thornless, just one here and there.. If there's a downside, the blooms don't last that long on the bush, 2-3 days, and less if it's hot.. .thornless shoots... I've had to peg this one..
..newish 'Gabriel Oak' in comparison to Heritage.. 'The Country Parson' blooms continuously, but I don't know if I'll keep it or not.. 'England's Rose' doing better in dry conditions.. should be nice next year I think..
Heritage is beautiful and good rose. I have been enjoying it too. May be I will put it where boscobel is but worried about rose replant. Boscobel is only 2 year old so hopefully it won't be too bad.
Albertine and my white rambler (wedding day?) Have gone mad with new growth suddenly... it seems to like the big sticking out branches... the wisteria on left has wound up some of them! Both throw up lots of new growth in summer and flower on that so I can cut it back again now.. already have once already! Theres a summer clematis polish spirit in there but I think it needs a bit more colour in summer so I might take cuttings and pop a few more in there..
@Rojas warm welcome. No wonder your forum name translates to 'roses'. Please share your roses with us. Nice garden you have there with kuekenhof style tulip planting, dahlias, lupins and all. Looking forward to even more photos.
I like the flexibility afforded by growing the expensive DA roses in pots. Whenever I moved houses, I have taken them with me, my sort of portable cut flower garden. Moreover, in my current fully paved front driveway cum garden, potted roses are the only option. Having said that, I have had roses in the ground before and they have done extremely well with very little care and just relying on rain for watering.
@Eustace Apologies for the late response..somehow I have missed your post. Thank you for the warm welcome and efforts to find out the actual meaning
Lovely pictures @Omori and I love that scabious. I comisioned some custom sized trellis from a local chap for highgrove and eden rose which were delivered today. Very pleased! Super sturdy (£35 pair, good deal!). Ones for fence by obelisk the other on the right in that corner. As they arent huge and will be vertical im Debating painting them black to make a feature and echo the arch, obelisks, fences... red highgrove and pinky white eden would pop! Anyone had a look at the new exclusive releases from styles? Theres some lovely new ones im quite taken with!
