Thank you so much for the suggestions everyone! Much to think about and research.

@edhelka that’s a good point about BS, I hadn’t realised that. The red request comes from my husband — he just doesn’t want pink — so maybe orange is a possibility with WW (thanks @Nollie) or Westerland. Will definitely check out Rambling Rosie, Flanders, Crimson Siluetta (looking forward to pics if you do get it, @Nollie), Jubilee Papa M and Dublin Bay (thanks @Fire and @bcpathome).

@Fire, I did notice your Nabob in the video, and it’s appealing that it’s evergreen. I’m in Cambridge so winters are mild. Btw that’s nepeta Purrsian Blue in front of the roses. It’s fluffing up again for a second flush. Annoyingly there’s a drain cover hidden under the bark which is the reason for the gap in the row of nepeta.

@Marlorena , thank you I will look up that fuchsia and Lovestruck. The rose thread has made me want more roses, but it is a difficult spot to be pruning, fertilising or doing anything. Marie Nabonnand looks lovely and being thornless is definitely appealing, hopefully TWR will take you up on that offer. I get poked by Flower Carpet all the time just standing or contorting myself at that corner, but it’s forgiven for being so floriferous.
Yes we had privacy film installed on the window, so in the daytime it looks like a mirror and no one can see inside. I must say I didn’t think about cleaning — I don’t think we have ever cleaned that window in the 5 years since the house was built!

..I've not heard of that film over windows, that's interesting..  I've got blinds on my windows, but I might be interested in looking into that privacy film..

...sounds like your want a red that fades to crimson or orange, rather than pink..

..thorny Dublin Bay as mentioned fades to orange.. it can be grown in a narrow confine, or on a pillar..  likewise 'Santana',  which can be grown free standing... some black spot tolerance would be required..

@Fire, thank you. I have put in a lot of work, but the feeling I usually get in the garden is that of gratitude, as if I’ve been given a great gift that I don’t completely deserve - a fragile, yet tremendously powerful thing that is much larger than I could ever be.

What a nice surprise to see your garden on video. It’s looking beautiful.

Mine is very far from manicured but it's the closest to my vision that it's been since I moved in. Not having travelled for 18 months, I have had a chance to watch it more closely and learn more about its habits.

I feel inspired by Sarah Raven's aesthetic and Great Dixter's wild and jungly parts. I heard a lecture by Fergus on how they use self-seeding in their planting plans and how they focus on supporting biodiversity.
