@Lizzie27 Hello. CA has been slow to get going for me, still only 5ft by 4ft ish and seems tiny compared to The Generous Gardener towering over her further along the trellis, both planted Spring '19. I don't look too closely at her blooms after rain but when well formed I find them pretty with a good scent. Very healthy foliage.
TGG worth a pic today though first flush going over. Deadheading very much a ladder job but easier now @Marlorena says she takes laterals down further than the first fiver.
Oh you have Bengali @newbie77. I was recently eyeing up that one. Foliage looks nice and shiny.
Its flowers have nice colour, it is healthy too but it hasnt turned into a shrub shape for me. Slow to repeat. Doesnt start many basal canes or branches. So a bit tall and narrow plant. But I am not best person to review it, as I have planted it near a large conifer and this is just second year of this rose.
Tack, I am here too. Very busy with work and kids but I read most of the posts whenever I get a chance. Phone issues so don't post much.
I was thinking about reviewing how my roses are doing and if I can get rid of some. One advantage of busy life is, I don't notice which ones are not doing good. From the kitchen and patio all looks good. It had been raining intermittently so I haven't watered or fed.
At one point of time almost everything balled in rain/sun, then many flopped in rain. Then I got some time and instead of careful deadheading, I just went chop chop chop and cut off whatever was looking bad or flopping. Now many are setting up with next set of buds.
@newbie77 I am seriously assessing my roses now too. The problem is I am ordering and preordering already without being certain how many I will bin. So far only Arthur de Sansal has been disposed of, of the others only Carmen Wurth and Freifrau Caroline are definite goners but even then they have a couple of months to improve....and then you read here how often things improve with age! But I have bought 2 from TW and ordered 8 from TCL. I panic ordered when I saw a couple I was interested in were already OOS, I missed out on a couple last year. Which are you unhappy with?
So far Deelish and yves piaget rose take forever to fatten up their Buds and then on rain they ball or get damaged. But both have good fragrance if at all they are safe from rain.
Mr Lincoln and papa mieland are still one cane wonders in their second year and show only 1-2 flowers in a year.
Novalis rose can't take our rain/sun changes and looks awful. Chartreuse de P has better colour flowers in second flush but it is on watchlist. Mill on the floss isn't doing anything but I think I might give it some more time.
I have put an order with TCL too though my order has only couple of roses, not worth shipping charges. But I really don't need anymore. I think the ones looking oos were never in stock this year. Just old listing.
@cooldoc I got one beautiful bloom off CW last year and was so excited for this year but in spite of good vigor, nice shape, excellent health the darned plant won't flower right, lots of blooms but all really damaged and ugly. I bet now I've made the decision this better weather will bring on perfect flowers. I've even kept the plant out of the rain but maybe this humidity is doing it. FC is just a mildewy heap with cabbagey flowers. I'll take pics tomorrow. Oh and Pearl Drift is also going, mildewy and brown or pink spotty blooms.
Even my Kordes ones were late to the party.. when the Austins were flowering in heaps, these just stood there with few buds and almost all damaged by the late May rains.. but then they took off and started producing lots of buds.. Will see how they do.. Grafin Diana, Rosengrafin Marie Henriette, Gartenprinzessin Marie Henriette are the ones I have.. the last one is only a few months old and so I am hoping it will get better as well..
