@Fire ...yes, not my garden, that's at Mannington, Norfolk.. they have staff.. I think they winter prune the laterals hard back..
..nice photos from DA, Mr Vine Eye, glad you had a nice time.. although I'm going to say that I think their potted roses are too large and cumbersome looking, they were better earlier.. I would have to cut those back... I prefer Tack's more compact floriferous potted roses, if I'm honest..
I have an oranges and lemons rose border @dabolem and think the varying warm tones work well together, also with cream/white roses. The problem I find with purple roses is they can go a bright magenta colour in summer. Blue/lavender ones go a paler pink in heat. So there is always a chance if you plant those shades with PB you will get pink! Perhaps a yellow rose plus some purple and blue perennials would would look good?
The Prince - I really wish I had more of this rose, I love it’s chameleon qualities. Depending on the weather, blooms can be a moody burgundy, dark red, purple, deep lavender or magenta. Just coming into a new flush and here’s what it’s wearing for September:
I got to quite like Pure Poetry for a few months over the summer, but heavy rain last night was a timely reminder of why I should shovel prune it! This was a perfectly nice bloom yesterday:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Thank you @Nollie, I think I’ll put a yellow or peach rose near PB and maybe some blue Nepeta or Salvia Nemorosa.
Anyway, I just decided that I must have a Lady of Shallot, I need it, lol.
Your TP is gorgeous
I have to move my M.me Alfred Carriere because where t is now it takes too little sun, just a couple of hours a day, and because the wall behind it is somewhat white and I want a more contrast with it.
Do you know of a climbing rose, not white, that blooms well even in shadey corners? An maybe repeat blooms? Am I asking for too much?
@dabolem Is the location open to the sky? That helps a lot regarding getting enough light, versus overhanging trees which is no good. How big do you need it to get?
@Omori yes, it is open to the sky. The wall is NW facing, but there are 3 big poplars in front of it, so the sun rays are somehow blocked by them, especially from 3 pm to 5 pm. Not all day long, and not in the winter, luckily, it is a bright shadow, anyway
@Omori New Dawn is actually too pale for that wall. I would like something more colourful, because the MAC flowers too don’t stand out with it. Maybe some things red or a very dark pink
@dabolem Most roses seem to be pale that do well in that aspect, how tall is the wall?
Some options…Purple Skyliner, or Gertrude Jekyll would be good if it isn’t a tall wall. Zephirine Drouhin is another option depending on whether airflow would cause any disease issues. Hopefully someone has more suggestions for you as well.
Mme. Alfred Carriere is one of the top roses recommended for a north-facing wall, which is where I have mine @dabolem, but against a dark background, I can see it could be a little lost against a white one. Plenty of ramblers can take a shady position. I have looked at Veilchenblau and Violette for a large shady arch, the purple colour is said to be more pronounced than in the sun. Here are suggestions for shade on the Trevor White site:

Yes, @Mr. Vine Eye, nice photos and nice to see the garden in different seasons.
I like DA pots. But I think they would be out of proportion in most gardens. 60cm pot with three roses in it, that's at least 1.5m of space. I can imagine large pots or urns, framing wide stairs to some mansion... but in normal gardens? We usually use pots because we are out of space.
