Thought I'd show a couple pics of the revamped front garden, where I still have lots of late spring bulbs to come thanks to the hours I spent kneeling in the mud last
autumn/winter. I'm hoping with the delay this spring that everything will flower at once in a riot of colour, but we'll see.
Last year most of the front garden was a builder's junk
area apart from some existing plants I retained in a protected area but after the paving finally
went down I was able to finish planting it up . At the moment everything in the
border is green and 2' high but I'm happy with it so far, just waiting for some
little perennials to fill out along the front line and flop onto the paving.
L shape border has 10 roses, including four new
and I have room for one more.
Side border has 5 roses. I added Buff Beauty over
winter where the gap is showing the railings and another couple I added
just for fun.
Next plan is to add 3 big pots for roses which
hopefully I can achieve without it looking too crazy.
Fragrance, and what notes two people detect, is fascinating, OH doesn’t get the really strong grapefruit fragrance of La Rose de Molinard that I do, but gets more from The Prince than me, she says it wafts! We both agree that Soul is the best in the garden right now though.
Looking really smart @Victoria Sponge, you have packed a lot of roses in there, it’s going to be spectacular.

Finally have a rose scent to enjoy, really deep old fashioned talcy rose smell with a touch of parma violet. 'Not Heidi Klum'EditThe honey is delicious @Marlorena but like @JessicaS the main enjoyment is in the bees for us. We didn't collect honey last year as we got 20something kilos the year before and still have plenty.
Really looking forward to the pictures of your new beds @Victoria Sponge when they are in bloom, they look lovely already.
@Victoria Sponge ... can't wait to see all that in flower, going to look great.. love your brick paving too, wish I had that.. herringbone pattern I think..
.. @Tack ..yeah I can understand that, just having the bees... It really makes a cottage garden doesn't it?..
..well, I got a nice blue pot today.. I think it'll be another month before this blooms though..
Lovely, @Tack. It is going to be a tricky one to ID, I had a nosey on Agel-Rosen’s website and there are at least half a dozen contenders of similar colour. I searched ‘fragrant roses’ and ‘purple’ as they list blue/lavender roses under that colour. If I had to bet I would say Mammy Blue but could be any one of them.

Here is Madame Alfred Carriere getting into her stride on the North West facing front of our house. Although she tends to be a bit exhuberent I like the fact that she grows and flowers out of the way of passers-by. I just have to keep tying her in until she's above head height.

Just popped out, nothing new to report in the garden - more buds slowly starting to peel open their sepals.
