@Nollie ah thats a shame, I get very annoyed with blackspot! My Austin brother Cadfael is prone too, but I must say it carries on regardless and blooms look and smell beautiful. Ive given it a good blast this year and mulched to try and stop it starting.
I do like those big dark reds, Id love a red climber next year anyone have any favourites? Its to go on a big gap on the fence - nearest roses are Lady of Shallott and Belle du Jour, I know they look good with red.
I do wish you could load bigger pictures via mobile site, I have to send to my desktop
@JessicaS, when I crop the photo on mobile, even if it is a just a little bit trim, somehow image size reduces significantly. I am sure it depends on which phone but give it a try on your phone.
I am on leave today, little one at nursery and good weather. Perfect for gardening. Lets see how much I can get done today. A whole lot of pending tasks are there.
@RoseGirl I think the caterpillar might be something like a gypsy moth
Yes, could be - thank you. (A google image search of those wasn't a good idea at breakfast time!) Had another look through the affected plant this morning and picked off about 20 of the little wrigglers. Only evident on 2 of my 25 roses at the moment... but a sweep round also drew my attention to some little green beetles which also appear to be having a fine old time. Too small to be rose chafers I think. But I had a bumper year last year with next to no pests, so I guess I'm due...
Definitely the darling buds of June for me too @Perki
The Mayflower not living up to its name... more than 20 buds now
Old Wollie is recovering — thanks everyone for your advice!
Flower Carpet White, a good doer as ever at least in terms of floriferousness and disease resistance
Nepeta 'Purrsian Blue' underplanting Flower Carpet White in the front garden; happily no local cat incursions — maybe it's only when the stems are broken
My yellow floribunda, the standard bearer for roses in front garden, for now. Strong citrus fragrance This leggy fellow is the first of my Austins to produce buds. Falstaff. And what's this? My mystery climber beginning to finally reveal it's secret...Oooooh!!
Well my only rose with open flowers are my Celebration. These are the buds that were tight closed so didn't get damaged in the bad weather. I love the deep yellow they start as, turning paler as they age. The scent is a delicate light old rose. Other than this the rest are just about to break, so only things like clematis The President , Nubia and Angel Wings are stealing the show at the moment.
