It’s all happening for you @Tack, lovely selection of blooms. Good to hear Wildberry is as rain resistant as promised, I will keep it in mind!

@RoseGirl sorry I don’t recognise it, but I did have a hairy caterpillar last year, with some yellow markings, that did munch buds. If nobody can ID it, try posting on the Insect of the Day thread to see if you have more luck there.

It’s been a bad year here for early blackspot and, for the first time, aphids. Curled and hairy sawflies are the worst though, much of my foliage is very shredded, no matter how much I squish, there is just far too many of the b*ggers!

Thanks Nollie - I'll do that tomorrow if nobody has any ideas!

@RoseGirl I think the caterpillar might be something like a gypsy moth

@Eustace That looks just like my mountbatten, both buds and bloom. Is it scented?

Blimey nearly 200 posts to get through , I've enjoyed everyone pictures they are really nice . My roses are still far away from flowering its June now and I am usually prepping and filling the pots for summer plants but I don't feel ready yet for summer like most of the garden.  Blue poppys @edhelka ;) remember to dig in lots of organic matter ideally ericaceous but multi purpose is fine, mine are flowering now I'll put some pictures on when I pull my finger out .

Just athought.  Have you noticed recently, how plants etc that are sent out by the, 'Specialist Growers'  tend to deviate from all those writeen instructions in gardening books.  For instance.  Buying Bare root Roses.  Most traders will illustrate a plant with at least three strong shoots, branches.  Sadly, so many reach the customer having just a single spindly twig.  Then the perhaps more bushy specimen.  Here it appears, pruning advice has been thown to the wind.  So as to fit the plant into the packaging.  No, slanted cuts.  No.  The whole plant has simply been chopped to fit.  This, imo causes the novice some problems.  Planting up, and.  Oh no!  All these dead stems.

@Mike Allen Indeed. Does seem to depend on supplier though. I ordered about 20+ bare roots this year from various places and it did vary. I have reasonable rose experience but was new to bare roots. We had a bit of a comparison on the old 2020 rose thread as everyones bare root orders arrived.  For me, certainly the specialist rose growers I tried e.g styles, Austin had at least 3 strong canes with rest neatly pruned and are all romping away into lovely plants. I was very very impressed with cottage memories as well, quality especially for the good price was very good, and the ones I brought are all doing very well, same for friends I recommended to. JParkers not so good, many spindly canes a number broken and dieback, noticably not as good quality this year as previously. I had issues with a few suppliers e.g you garden but cant fault customer service, full refunds given. Looking forward to seeing the various ones actually in bloom!
