  • Thanks @Victoria Sponge she's 7 now and my last remaining one.  Follows me everywhere when I'm digging.

    That's dreadful news @Tack it must be so frustrating after all the care you give your roses.

    @Marlorena your fedge is looking very smart.  Which roses are you growing over your arch?

    @Nollie really like the black fence.  Going to look stunning when all planted up and growing.

    @omori I think I would forgive your gorgeous doggie anything.  He looks very handsome.

    Thank you Everybody, kind words. 12 roses are badly affected and around the garden multiple others and other plants have some damage. Everything will recover though I think.
    My perimeter now looks hideous with boards, chicken wire and miscellaneous scrap blocking potential holes. Fingers crossed. I do hope your wretched foxes stop digging @newbie77 and @Eustace. And at least I don't have to worry about wild boar, I know what damage they can do.
    I am in love with your yellow lab @Omori, totally my favourite dog, I've had 3.

    ..thanks too for comments..

    @Nollie
    ..the black is better.. I liked the grey but now you've done it, it looks so much more co-ordinated..

    @poppyfield64
    ...I have Wild Rover and Chawton Cottage on my arch,... neither overpower me, which is good..

    @Omori
    ..sorry you lost your Buff Beauty... those suckers can be easy to miss... I think we've all done it..

    I left a sucker growing for a season on Malvern Hills because, although easily distinguishable from new growth, it just blended in once the foliage on the rest of the plant had turned green.

    We’ve not got any wildlife to worry about really, except fat pigeons and cats. Today I found some places to resetup the bird feeder. We got one of those freestanding multi station things from Aldi last year but the stake part of it bent in my ridiculously hard ground. Fortunately I’ve got no shortage of wires to hang them off!

    I’m very conscious of the water situation @Marlorena hence all my thinking about how I can fit more water storage in. We’ve had no rain for weeks.
    Ill either get two new larger butts and move the mini to the front of the house, or just get one larger one and run it off the mini. I’d have to pack up the mini greenhouse to have space but I’ve barely used it this year anyway.

    @Tack sorry about the muntjac destroying your roses. One of my friends had her entire garden decimated by them.

    Last year, I too had 4 pots of roses uprooted by foxes. They start digging small holes and this repeated daily digging affects the plants badly. So this year, I have grown tulips all round the roses and also pushed in small terracotta pots which serve the dual purpose of watering the roses and reduce the space available for digging holes. So far, only a few pots with vacant space around them have been dug into by these raiders. Now trying to deter them with onion and garlic peelings. Fingers crossed, they do not uproot them completely.
    Thanks for the tips. I have chopped an onion and put on pot to check if it helps.

    @Marlorena Hmm well I suppose it is moderately sized and situated such that it gives me a bit of a free hand, particularly in the front. It isn’t massive by non-town standards but large for this area.

    I do as well, MacPlants today, SE Hort at some point, and the DA order I just placed for the Buff Beauty replacement and ramblers. Going to have some more freezing nights this week by the look of things 😰

    I'm looking forward to seeing the program section Monty mentioned in GW, not last Friday but the one before, that would be showing very small gardens and how people make the most of the space they have.

    Mine's feeling smaller all the time - it has to be a sitting area, a play area, a storage area, a water store, an area for me to garden and an area to grow fruit and veg. It's hard in a small space. Especially now we've lost the allotment. Although I feel like we're getting there. Starting to balance those things better.

    No more plant orders though!
