My alfalfa hay for rose tea-making arrived yesterday and is duly soaking in a large dustbin for a few days. It’s much bulkier, kilo for kilo, than the pellets, which I couldn’t get. Don’t know how it will compare but certainly more difficult to extract the juice I suspect! The squeezed out hay can be added to the compost heap or I might use it as a mulch in the veg garden:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
@Nollie...thanks for that. Tried to work out what the back of the Vitax pack meant, but I give up wishing I'd done chemistry (or whatever) at school. Sometimes it really isn't worth giving too much thought to something.
@peteS , @Nollie .. from that packet strikes me ( assuming that's Vitax back ) -- it doesn't have any measurable trace elements .... refers to magnesium but non-quantified suggests to me its a trace present in the pellets? Was looking in one of the garden shops a week or so ago ... was pretty surprised to see that quite a few different-plant-marketed feeds ( several brands) had basically the exact same composition ( the one i remember within the same brand -- was an ericaceous feed which was exactly the same as a rose/shrub feed). And as it happens I looked at an FBB pack -- nutrients therein seemed to be pretty similar ratio to a balanced-ish existing fertiliser i already have so i just left it on the shelf. Had gone to get seaweed plant tonic type stuff but of course the one thing i wanted they did not have.
Ordered some roses last night from DA . Eustaca Vye bare root and Desdemona which I had to buy in a pot seen as the bare roots had sold out . Also picked up a Kew gardens for one of my clients looking forward to that one. I'll get Gabriel oak later on this year.
I still like the david austin catalogues its the only one I keep I still got two previous editions . I remember a while back I thought someone a thrown a brick at my door but no it was the thick david austin catalogue that made a crater on my hallway floor instead didn't half make me jump.
I am a bit disappointed they have discontinued Munstead wood well I think its discontinued ? It a great velvety colour
..this is Vitax Azalea.. what's the diff? not a lot.. except with the DA brand label you get double the quantity for the same price..
..the perennials I got today were again all very good Omori..
@Jolly Gary the Gardener ... if you want a better version of 'Blue Moon' then you might like 'Twice In A Blue Moon' which is thought to be an improvement - as the name implies... ... another welcome to Roses from me too.. I hope you enjoy looking in here and showing your roses..
