@Mr. Vine Eye Curious how they arrive - my last lot took over two weeks and they were all a bit crunchy leaved like the frost had got them and very pale and drawn like they had been deprived of light. Should be priority pass order times too. Its putting me off another order at the moment as they are clearly a bit overwhelmed.
I just received an order from SGC, let me tell you, it was p*ss poor quality! Plants placed upside down inside pots (how...?), tiny, one pot was just a grass seed weed, etc. I’ve emailed them for a refund 😑 My last order with them was fine but this one, absolutely shocking.
Thanks @Nollie it's quite disappointing but I hope they do the right thing and refund without having to go through PayPal for it. Then at least I can hopefully make it up elsewhere...like on that plugs website @JessicaS mentioned I quite fancy those illumination foxgloves now!
Yes, you would be right about FBB. I didnt put FBB but it might have been present in the MPC I used. She or he had torn many compost bags too when they were at back garden and since then I have been keeping MPC bags in driveway near front door. I will try your suggestions. I would have moved pots to front drive, but there are just too many. Not enough space.
@Omori Not good I think they are struggling with the amount of orders. Very pleased with that southeast horticultural though. I use gardening express a lot as well, some really good bargains to be had in the specials and never had any quality issues - thumping great established plants!
Ive just received my first order from farmyard nurseries as well and am delighted - everything carefully packed in bags and tucked in thick layers of straw, nice sized plants and good condition. Free straw mulching supplies Lovely selection of plants as well - I'll be back later in the year after more hellebore once they are in stock they had some stunning ones.
Oh I've always had good stuff from SGC, I had an issue with a Gaura that I bought in autumn, Top growth came off and there was no sign of new growth from the base. Emptied the pot and there was nothing left of it! But they just refunded as soon as I emailed about it.
My iris from last time was a bit damaged from packing, the growing shoot had snapped in half, but that shouldn't affect it hugely. Other than that they've always been good plants that have grown on nicely.
Prices have crept up though over the last few months though. I'll soon have reached the point where I won't be buying new plants though. Everything will be from collected seed or cuttings is the hope!
I really wanted some pulmonaria - everything else was just thrown in as extras to justify the delivery cost!
@Mr. Vine Eye Yeah my previous ones were great last year. They are great with quick refunds and comms etc though cant fault that. Prices have really crept up though - even with 20% off its getting too expensive for that size pot. Ive started growing lots of bits from seed too, good lockdown sanity saver, and been trying good sized plugs for the rest and potting on. I tried the "just pay postage" offers advertised in GW mag too (T&Morgan) which have actually been good so far - 25 plugs for £5 and they were all good quality, about an inch or so all with true leaves and are growing nicely in little pots. The suttons plug pot luck mix I had was good too, I got it in some sort of offer and they were good quality and growing fast.
@Mr Vine Eye, I notice you had a creeping Veronica on the order you posted earlier. I'd be a bit wary of where you plant it, it's a very vigorous spreader (at least, it is here) and it's very difficult to get rid of. I dug up large chunks of it earlier in the spring and just chucked it on the verge outside without planting it properly. It's survived the cold weather and every single bit is currently blooming. Lovely plant and the very blue flowers are striking but needs a lot of room!
