Thanks @Marlorena, Teasing Georgia going too, seems they are having a bit of a clear out, what with Munstead Wood and Lady Emma Hamilton going as well. Even more intriguing to see what the new introductions will be!

Graham Thomas is still available from a few EU nurseries, including Agel-Rosen and TCL (under the breeders code Ausmas) if anyone is keen to secure it. Don’t know about the Brexit thing tho.

  • Can I ask of all roses which ones are less spiky? :) are there any? Lol

Some have very few thorns and there are roses which are completely thornless.

like Kew Gardens, silky smooth stems.

  • Some are questionable though! For instance Ghislaine is supposedly thornless or (very few thorns) when in reality she is covered in large numbers of small, razor sharp, scimitar-like hooks. They vary in size but some are actually quite pronounced. I’ve had my worst Rose related cuts from her.

Its not just the stems either, most roses have prickles on their leaves and it’s often these that I get snagged on rather than the thorny stems.

Ghislaine’s older growth is thornless as the prickles are on newer growth and vanish over time. But she’s still covered in spikeys.

So she really shouldn’t be on a low thorns list in my opinion.

She’s gorgeous, but I do cross my heart before going into battle with her.
A formidable lady and no mistake.

Oo will check them out. Cheers.

After a lot of reflection I think rather than going crazy with lots of roses... I will buy 3 small bushes and learn to look after them this year. Next year, I will add some more.

..well, I hope you manage to find out in due course, perhaps the only way is to grow it with the one you have and compare but I think it's interesting that Highworth is also the name of their property..   do keep us posted..

..lament for 'Graham Thomas'... it seems it cannot be bought online anywhere in UK at the moment...   if anyone happens to see it available online only in UK, please let me know..

...I didn't keep mine because I had 'The Poet's Wife' which was new at the time, and didn't want 2 strong yellows..   I do wish they would give some advance warning of these 'retirements'...

You won't be able to have only 3, if you are still reading this thread, it is full of enablers lol 😂

I am already regretting why I didn't get Graham Thomas when I had a chance after seeing Mr vine's Photoshop and now reading Marlorena's post.

If DA released a Munstead Wood or Darcey Bussell coloured climber... that would be worthy of thinkerment.

They must do a climber. They’ve not released one since 2014 (Lady of the Lake)

Anyone know what happened in 2016? Just bad luck and no suitable specimens ready for release?
