...well ahead of ours @Nollie and looking splendid... just to say thanks for info about Sawflies earlier.. I've seen one or two throughout winter but none recently, so we have it all to come...
@Littlegarden ...did your Banksia flower? I should like to see it..
@Sammymummy ... you might like to consider Olearia macrodonta for your evergeen shrub with scented flowers... it's hardy for most.. it's one of my favourite evergreens if roses did not take precedence in the way they do here..
..Clematis 'Arabella' is just wonderful in the right garden.. that was not mine,.. it mildewed badly in semi drought conditions.. watering resolves that, but I don't water too much.. so it went... better where there's enough moisture in the ground and from above..
My poor 'Dusky Maiden'...looking a very sorry specimen this year with miniscule leaves which just shrivel and die and lots of die back. Last summer it was magnificent for a first season with large glossy maroon coloured leaves and wonderful deep red blooms, but was completely ravaged by BS late on. Personally I think it's had it, and have informed Beales as much, but I'll wait and see.
Yes @peteS that’s Marie Pavie. Grown incredibly fast for a bare root just planted this year, here’s the whole plant:
...and the dreaded sawfly!
Plenty of green left on those canes of your Dusky Maiden Pete, I had plently of early leaves shrivelled and dying off due to a cold spell, but most have recovered and grown new ones. Only when it gets like this Mutabilis do you need to give up!
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
I'm very pleased with 'England's Rose' now it's recovered... doing very nicely.. ..this is 'Windflower' another lesser known DA rose, but with semi double scented flowers, which surprised me with its fragrance.. so planted next to a path.. lots of vigour. ..this is 'Marie van Houtte'. an old Tea rose.. similar to Mme Antoine Mari I gather, but perhaps better foliage.. ..this is Euphorbia x pasteurii 'Browns' strain'.. almost the whole plant turns bright red in winter.. I shall be planting in the shingle I think, it's too good for a pot..

I was already considering removing her anyway to swap in something else but thought I’d see how she did this year. Not off to a great start!
Pot parade on the East wall, L to R - Pure Poetry, Heidi Klum, Rose de Rescht, Marie Pavie and The Prince:
Both The Prince and Marie Pavie have buds!
