    SAWFLY ALERT

OK, probably earlier here than in the UK, but keep your eyes peeled! I water my potted roses a little every couple of days at the moment and in the intervening period they have made a very good start on my Marie Pavies and discovered all that tender new growth on some of my new potted bare root roses in the poly. Squished a fair few already, but will be giving everything the microscopic once over tomorrow. Very tiresome critters, they totally decimated my rose foliage last year 😠

@pitter-patter Thank you, yes, they are Gipsy Queen. I would say they start on the apricot side and fade closer to the pink side. Maybe we could say peach :) But anyway, it doesn't matter much.

David Austin roses have such a range of luxuriant leafage this time of year, coming up,  highlighted in Mr Vine Eye's photos above.. I'm especially liking Eustacia Vye as well, it's not one I've noted that much before...

@Rickyjones24 Its unlikely the monarda would pass on to a rose , they are likely different fungi that affects rose and monarda . Dig in lots ( I mean a lot ) of organic matter when planting monarda it will help it doesn't have to be new compost old is fine .
  • Cheers Perki, I will give it a try.

Everyone garden are coming on a treat looking at all the pictures  :) Mine on the other hand is looking bare but for a forest of allium leaves I need to stop buying them but I can't help it. Roses are now starting to get their leaves which will probably get frost bite looking at the forecast next week I am seeing -3C   :o Its been like summer the past two days .

Cheers @Marlorena I wish there were more rose breeders who would pay some attention to their roses’ ability to withstand strong wind..

I am pretty sure I will at some point end up with a rugosa or two.. since they’re the quintessential wind tolerant varieties.. I prefer the doubles though.. but not sure if they’re as tolerant as the singles..

I’m loving all the foliage photos here.. I gave my potted roses their first soluble feed today having been falsely misled by the gorgeous weather but then as I found out about the impending frosts next week I’m getting slightly worried about all the new tender shoots that I’ve encouraged to appear.. they will survive of course but I dislike seeing crispy frost bitten foliage on my roses..
