@Tack, out of your shortlist, I have Desdemona and she has been healthy and flowers a lot.
When I went to visit Kew gardens last year, i think in late september, most roses were past their best. Also I had a feeling that they werent able to give enough care during lockdown. Princess Anne was one of the healthiest lot. Now that could just be by chance but I was surprised as I never paid attention to it on DA website. I didnt notice much fragrance from it though and I already have Gabriel Oak and Young Lycidas so I didnt buy it this autumn.
I got a big lot of compost delivered on driveway. there is no way to hide it. I declared to my DH that I have bought it as birthday present for myself lol
@Fire ..oh gosh no, nothing to do with anybody on this thread, far from it.. it's something I've noticed for years on this forum, when somebody asks a question and they never get back, mostly about other plants or design advice... I used to have this [crazy] idea that it was staff from Immediate Media who run the site, which is commercial, trying to drum up interest by seeding questions, as they are sometimes quite inane if I'm honest..
@Nollie ..yes lovely foliage once again, and just to further compare, here's my Mme Antoine Mari today... a pruned specimen which I have to do in the winter.. it would be double this size or more actually, unpruned... one of the easiest, simplest of roses to grow, it doesn't even need feeding..
@cooldoc2000 ...I know other members here have one or two of those roses, but just to say, I found CdeC the worst offender for disease amongst them.. it defoliated for me in August and also for my neighbour who has 2.. ..they all bloom through to autumn... CdeC probably has the best scent.. I found Jacques Cartier not terribly rain resistant and I feel the best of the 3 for general planting is Louise Odier.. I've moved mine to a large pot with trellis as it can grow quite big..
If you want the very best scent, consider 'Mme Isaac Pereire'.. when well grown the blooms get enormous and look like this..
@cooldoc2000 Louise Odier is a cracking rose, but it does get big. You either need lots of room for it to arch, or, put it on a structure of some sort. I’ve put mine on an obelisk this year.
My Comte de Chambord is a bit fussy, we’ll see how it does this year.
As Marlorena mentioned, Mme Isaac Pereire is a sumptuous rose indeed. I have mine on a pillar support. I think it may be the most sumptuous rose in all existence, but that’s probably a contentious statement 😛
..one of the very best older fashioned roses.. a hybrid musk from the 1920's is 'Felicia'.. ..delicious scent, almost thornless and wider than tall.. about 5 x 8 feet after 3 or 4 years.. needs deadheading after a downpour..
Marlorena your garden is crazy beautiful, that Felicia looks stunning. I was going to get that last year but then it sold out, and I never did...looks like I will have to try for it again, I like Hybrid Musks.
I stand corrected. It seems that some of my roses have been watching the videos. My rose arch might actually get some roses across it for the firs time ever. I would throw a rose party and keep saying to everyone "look, look! Bugger me, roses are actually growing on the rose arch!".
