Done with nigh shifts, so its watering day here. Yes the weather will go back to freezing after 2 days. Atleast 5 of my roses having frost damage
See that everyone was on a perennial/ annuals shopping spree. Would be lovely to see all your gardens.
@Nollie Saw your comment on blackspots and sulphur spray. Did you mean that sulphur sprays does'nt help at all? I have 2 bottles of sulphur spray lying around and wondering if it makes any difference at all.
@Mr. Vine Eye lucky you, to have those buds in this weather.
@Omori Thanks for that...sounds like a bit of a gamble if you ask me for such a prominent spot. As you probably have a similar summer climate to me, have you any recommendations as to what might be more suitable, ie...5ft tall, reliable bloomer, decent rain resistance. Colour, not fussed really, pale, dark yellow or pink, even red.
Lost of buds here, no sign of opening as the cold weather meant everything ground to a halt. Yesterday was meant to be my last frost for the foreseeable but woke up to another one this morning. That wind is still cold and desiccating.
@cooldoc to be fair I only sprayed once and probably too late at that, just funny that the first year I did BS is earlier than usual. I think you have to be diligent in spraying once a week but I’m not! My very hard water doesn’t help, leaves spots on the leaves.
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
@Omori Seems to fit the bill in many ways...excellent reviews on the all the important issues on Findmerose (I don't know how relevant that is as it seems very Americanised). Plus I'm sure my local GC had it in their DA section last time I was in. Thank you.
People from abroad think it's always raining in England.. well, we had a wet winter but my average rainfall is about 22 inches [550mil] a year... about 2 ins [50 mil] a month.. so far this month I've had 16 mil, just over half an inch.. summers are getting even drier I would say..
Even so, I'm creating this Rose 'fedge' from scratch, as I lost my other one to the new fence.. About a dozen quite large roses gone in here, about 4-5 feet apart,.. they will grow, compete and merge - that is the plan.. Roses used are.. 'Ghislaine de Feligonde' ..'Mrs. Paul'.. 'Aimee Vibert'... 'Marie Nabonnand'... 'Jude The Obscure'... 'Devoniensis'... 'Wilhelm'... 'Blush Noisette'.. 'Sombreuil'... 'Mutabilis'.. 'Duchesse de Brabant'.. 'Mme. Legras de St. Germain'..
pots and sticks visible are to keep my dog off while establishing.. this is a boring picture but what else can one do during a lockdown... one must have plans..
Looking very promising @Marlorena, I don't think it looks boring, in the sun everything looks airy and fresh
I can so relate to the posters who are cheered from dismal news in their real life by something nice in the garden. But after a dreadful personal winter the cheer I got from my roses doing well with lots of buds has been dealt a blow today by a visiting muntjac last night. 12 of the potted patio roses have been shorn of their tips and buds.I did wonder how I got away with this last year and was lulled into thinking deer wouldn't be an issue.
..thanks... @Lizzie27 ... no, not all climbers, but large shrub roses.. I shall have to control them no doubt.. I don't want it to look a total mess but I enjoy doing that sort of thing..
@Tack Oh I'm so sorry, aren't they a nuisance... I get those Muntjac's here, they come right up to my big fence there, the other side, but cannot get in... take away the fence and I would not have any roses.. Don't know what to suggest... how do they get in?...
Thank you @Marlorena . They can get in at several places but have favourite entry points which we are barracading now. We are always discovering new excavations under the fence created by fox and badger and they do use those too. Will go round and do our best with these.
