    @Fairygirl I grew up in a place with huge numbers of ash ... so many that it was named for them. My favourite thing as a teenager was to take a book to a little spinney near the quarter acre veg garden and sit on the roots of an old hollow pollarded ash while the woodpigeons cooed in the branches above me ... it would be lovely if this ash tree could have a similar life ahead.

    Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

     Morning Dove.  Yes I’m aware of various physical changes, so retire quickly. 😁

    We're very fortunate that we have a very wide selection of tree species here @Dovefromabove. There's no ash dieback either - not yet anyway, although I believe there is over on the east side.
    Do you mean you haven't been for a ten mile run today @Pat E? So lazy.... :D

    @Pat E :D
    I hope daughter has a better day today at work, after the woman yesterday who said she was rude and cheeky because she asked her to step back behind the lines when waiting for her food to be put on the counter. She seemed to think that working for the NHS makes her a special case when it comes to the guidelines. It's the kind of thing that often makes her come home and sleep for twelve hours to cope with it. I'm very worried about the stress she suffers due to her autism. The medication only does so much.  :/
    Anyway, they just get up each day and try to do their best, like pretty much everyone in there. Her manager has now tested positive, so that doesn't help.

    Good morning all, it's a beautiful warm sunny day here, the washing is out and one of our lovely neighbours has just been round with some eggs. We chatted about how fortunate we are to live where we are with our lovely fields and mountain views away from the towns. They are just keeping themselves to themselves and only going out for a shop. Her family live up in Toulouse, always a worry if you live and work in a city I think but then of course you can catch the virus anywhere. Toulouse has been particularly bad.
    Have a good day all, the news from the USA has also cheered me up this morning, but I don't think Trump will go quietly!

    I'm off down to the track for a training session before I'll allow myself to open the shed and get cracking :o

    I think that's wise @floralies. We aren't near the city, but my daughters work for supermarkets, about ten minutes away, so it's a continual worry. Lucky they have jobs to got to, unlike many folk, but a slightly poisoned chalice.
    How is your family doing?

    My family are ok'ish thank you @Fairygirl. My son has started working from home for two hours a day but if he is not feeling up to it he mustn't do it, the downside is he is on half pay now and only gets paid for the hours he works so feels he must do more. His wife is managing her chemo but both have their good and bad days. I don't know whether it's a postcode lottery with the aftercare of Covid but he is certainly having very good backup with scans and blood tests and physio etc. I would be interested to know how others are fairing in this respect.
  • Pity you are so far away @Dovefromabove I could do with a good bit of ash for a new handle for my dads old rake. (Not sure I have the skills to make one though).  :)
