Been out all day grafting in my sister's garden. I got paid in cookies and a dustbin so does that make me a legit tradesman?
Mowed the lawn, collected an unbelievable amount of leaves (very few of which originated on her property), glued her garden brush back together and straightened a bush . It's the one identified in an earlier thread as genista canariensis (or, less likely, coronilla glauca citrina) and was planted 5 years ago. It has flourished but looks like it wasn't planted deep enough. It has a lot of roots showing above the surface and fell over slightly a couple of months ago exposing even more. I had a mooch and the roots looked pretty thick and strong. Didn't fancy trying to dig up the whole thing so loosened it up, shoved it straight, mounded up some compost/soil to cover the roots, re-staked it and gave it a prune. Judging by how well it has grown and flowered this year, I expect it will survive the trauma.
Ooh @Biglad, wish you were my brother. š I remember reading somewhere you're starting a new job, am I right or just imagining it, good luck with it if you are, the end of gardening for cookies I suppose.Ā
I'm with Possum to a point @Obelixx, white fish, especially in a white parsley sauce does nothing for me, but I do love a fish pie, Jamie Oliver or Paul Hollywood recipes really good. Thank you for the link too, a shame to think they'll be setting off without an encouraging crowd around them. I wonder if the finish will be the same - who knows? š¤
Ā Going for drastic action in the garden today, a rose has got completely out of hand, lovely when it flowers but only once a year and the rest of the time it attacks you and smothers all the other shrubs and trees near it - I think it has to go, that's if I can get it out, it's huge. š±
Good day all. š
āCoffee. Garden. Coffee. Does a good morning need anything else?ā āBetsy CaƱas Garmon
Morning all,Ā chilly, hazy morning here. Purple dressing gown and first coffee going down.Ā No plans for today but the cats tell me they want to play in the garden when the sun hits.Ā After 2 months of vet visits with swollen intestines and huge kidneys,Ā Flatters the cat is better! š Renal function cat food and spring water and regular hair ball paste seems to have fixed him! So pleased,Ā he had been worrying me terribly.Ā So now he wants to go outside and assert his dominance!
I'm waiting for 20 flag iris to be delivered.Ā Gorgeous ones!! I've planted my new crocus and iris reticulata. Also did a seed harvest yesterday of morning glory,Ā zinnia and snapdragon. Kitchen window is full of gaura the bride seedlings and bathroom sill is full of perennial seedlings for next year.Ā
Not sure what jobs for the weekend that are left to do! Maybe sit and watch the birds with more coffee.Ā Sparrow hawk was visiting again yesterday!
Good morning allĀ āļøĀ Its a bright morning here in Norfolk.Ā
The cod last night was delicious ... Ā thick steaks giving tasty large flakes, from a big chunky line-caught fish, Ā it makes all the difference.
Ā Little slivers of small cod, hardly thicker than a plaice fillet, like the ones we see in supermarkets, have little flavour and a soft texture. If thatās all people can get and think thatās what cod is, thatās sad š Good cod has more flavour than farmed salmon. Of course, itās more expensive too. Ā
And I love good parsley sauce ... made with warmed milk aromatic with bay leaves, black pepper and lemon zest, thick with fresh green parsley and a dollop of cream. šĀ Ā OH has gone out for a thrash around the village on his bike ... hopefully dodging the runners out there. As this part of the village only has the one road in and out thereās not a lot of traffic even in normal times ... now it seems thereās more delivery vans than private cars.Ā
Todayās jobs will be prepping tonightās pizzas and then I must get on with the Christmas cards ... Iāve not decided on the final image yet ...
Gardening in Central NorfolkĀ on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Morning all/afties @Pat E. These sorts of plants are pretty tough @Biglad - firmed in well with a large boot, and a bit of compost chucked at the roots, and it'll be fine. Can you tell I don't pussyfoot around with plants here? I can't be doing with flimsy stuff that doesn't earn it's keepĀ Cookies and a bin sounds fair though.Ā Birds are great entertainment @WonkyWomble aren't they? The pair of squirrels out there just now are trying very hard to get in the birdcages. They'll need a saw.Ā Freezing fog here, although the frost has lifted now. It's supposed to clear, but not sure when. I intended going to the cemetery today and maybe nipping over to do one of the wee hills in the Campsies, but I can only just make out the trees at the end of the road just now.Ā
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Thanks @D0rdogne_Damsel. Yes - I start on Monday but don't have a workplace or any idea what/how to do It either won't happen or will be very easy money to start with
It's a hard school @Fairygirl It is so big (and in an awkward spot) that I couldn't get the size 11s anywhere near. It was a hands and knees (using the palms of my hands as if I was performing CPR) job to firm it in. Sadly (who drives around with emergency compost in the car!), I did do it properly and got some compo in and amongst the loosened roots. I think I may have convinced my sister that I know what I'm doing
The bin is already half full of leaves and will become my attempt at leaf mold. The cookies seem to have vanished

Very breezy here, I was sure it rained in the night but no sign of it now, perhaps it was just the leaves rustling. š
Hope it warms up for you there @Pat E
