  • Morning all who are here & those to come.
@Fairygirl I think you may be right about deliberate leaks, apparently he was due to announce in parliament on Monday, but I note that as the furlough is to be extended and would have expired by today he really had to announce it yesterday. Should have done what the devolved govs did & locked down over 1/2 term. The rates have risen ever since the schools & colleges went back it's obvious where it's spreading from.
Anyhow I have 4 sacks of spuds, boxes of apples, parsnips & celeriac in the ground, salad in the greenhouse. Lots to be positive about.

  • Which cookery book are you going to read nowĀ @D0rdogne_Damsel ?

I think it’s been a given on here that it’s a safe place to have an occasional rant if needed ... and a rant is just that, a chance to let off steam in a non-targetted way ... not aiming at anyone in particular. It prevents badly bruised foreheads and apoplexy.Ā

As @D0rdogne_Damsel says, we’re all struggling in one way or another and each of us have our own carp to deal with ...Ā

I'd forgotten that @Allotment Boy - yes, you may be right about the timing. You've got a good harvest thenĀ  :)
Oh don't get me wrong @Dovefromabove - fire is hideous too, of course it is. I just feel that when people get flooded, it's there - reminding them, and fire often removes the lot, so you feel it's got to be a new start, which just seems easier somehow. Easier isn't really the right word, but you know what I mean, I'm sure.Ā  Ā  :)
Dave has been for his breakfast. I've given him double rations, as he didn't come for anything in the afternoon yesterday, so he's clearly a bit hungry. He's wasting away to the size of a baby elephant... :D
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

  • @Fairygirl in the case of my friends’ home the fire destroyed the roof and the firemen’s hoses soaked the house contents ... and the water was pumped from a muddy green pond in the field opposite ... but she’d just got back from taking the children to school when she spotted the fire which must’ve been burning for quite a while ... thankfully she was able to get the family pets out of the house ... our village was quite a way from the nearest fire station and that was only retained firemen (lovely chaps tho they were ... garage mechanics, farm workers and a pub landlord etc) so the fire had really taken hold in the roof timbers by the time they arrived.Ā

The house was rebuilt but they never went back to it.
    Ā Ā
Ever since I’dknown her my friend had had nightmares about fire and had always made sure her children knew what to do wherever they were, escape routes etc ... and when we stayed away together she always checked the hotel’s fire instructions.Ā

She says she’s not dreamt about fire since that day ...

    Morning all.
    I slept well, at last.
Much cloudier today, but not raining.

Lockdown 2 for England. Now it's certain I won't see OH, or anyone else, for at least another month. Well, I may see someone in the SM, but I have supplies for 3 weeks. OH has posted some Attestation certificates so I will go to the tip eventually, if it hasn't shut.

Oh @Busy-Lizzie 😢 šŸ¤— Ā  ... I thought of you two last night when Boffle announced it ... thank heavens for the phone and t’internet ... at least contact isn’t dependent on paper and ink and snail mail like in days gone by. That’s me being Pollyanna again :/. Thank goodness you got some sleep ... I’ll need an early night tonight, again 🄱

Good morning everyone.Ā  Sleep disturbed by heavy rain and wind last night and today's forecast for light rain is wrong.Ā  It's very wet and windy too.Ā  Ā I've just found a very wet and soggy Cosmos curled up on my best bamboo wadding for quilts, now removed and wadding safe again.Ā  Good job he adores being scragged with a towel to get warm and dry again.

@Busy-Lizzie I tried putting our address in the national geographic institute so it could calculate our 1km perimeter for me.Ā  Address not found in either new or old "lieu-dit" form which is reassuring.Ā  Ā In the first lockdown I met one couple at the SM chatting happily as they pushed their trollies in aisle blocking tandem.Ā  Ā Seems they don't live in the same house so could only meet up at the SM.Ā  Maybe you could try that with some of your friends so you get to chat?Ā  A month or more utterly on your own will not be easy, no matter how much you have to keep you busy.Ā  Hard for OH too.

As for flood or fire I'll pass on both please.Ā  Ā I hope your daughter makes it to you safe and sound and with everything she needs to keep safe.Ā Ā

Have fun making Xmas cakes and puds @D0rdogne_Damsel and hope you can get all the dried fruit you need.Ā  I have to go to the other covered market in les Sables to find a decent selection for our Creole cake but that's made just a week ahead of Xmas so I hope we can move further from home in December but the world won't end if we don't get a cake.

Good luck to us all with this latest lockdown and special hugs to those with worries about loved ones they can't see or check up on and those needing other medical care.Ā  Ā Very stressful for everyone.

At least it's not like the War. Young women seeing their loved ones going off to fight and not knowing whether they'll come back. It's just that OH is elderly, still waiting for a hip replacement and very lame. I'm 10 years younger. I expect we'll be together before Christmas.

Good morning all. Thank you for setting us up on the November thread @dovefromabove.

I must get on and do things this morning - I came upstairs to plug my iPad in about an hour ago and Charlie the cat followed me so we are still on the bed chilling out!Ā

My garden and I live in South Wales.Ā
