Been working away from home all week without safe wi-fi to access in the evenings so missed a lot of what you lot have been up to. Hope you haven't missed me too much
Waiting for it to get light so I can check out the plants that arrived whilst I was away. If the ground isn't frozen, could crack on with my drainage project but it looks like it's a tad cold out there
Today has been terrible heat-wise. Just now at 6.300pm, we had a violent rain/lightning storm rush through. I hope it settles down to cool rain. Dinner is nearly ready. Hubby has found a recipe to use my Tarragon. Smells good.
Good morning all 😊 ☕️ love tarragon @Pat E ... tarragon and lemon roasted chicken 🍽 😋
I quite like a thunderstorm too, but I suspect I’d get blasé about them if I lived where you are.
Good to see you @Biglad ... as @D0rdogne_Damsel says, it did seem a bit quiet around here ... good to know you’ve been gainfully occupied 👍
Not got real fog today, the app describes it as ‘haze’ ... it seems very still. OH has been out for a quick thrash around the village on his bike ... he’ll be back at work on Monday.
He was offered and accepted furlough for November as, although the shop remained open, keeping staff numbers down was used as a way of allowing the requisite distancing.
However it seems that they didn’t reckon with footfall increasing as they’re next door to the garden centre entrance and share the carpark, and the Christmas flimflammery has beguiled the unwary and they’ve gone shopping as a way to cure all the world’s ills 😂
Now his manager is poorly with gall bladder probs poor lass, so OH is needed back at the shop a week early... hey ho ... it’s been lovely having him home and sharing the studio again ... but if will give me a chance to work on his birthday card in secret 🤫
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Morning all/afties, evening @Pat E. You'll be glad of that bit of rain though. Thought you'd just been up to mischief @Biglad Glad you had a nice anniversary @Allotment Boy . Tasty meal. I don't understand employers who think that's a good way to treat staff @Lizzie27. They don't deserve decent workers. @Yviestevie - just keep reminding your daughter of the reason she left. Better to leave than have to escape. That's all I'm saying on the subject as it's one I'm 'familiar' with. That's the trouble with modern cars @Obelixx. Too much crap on them to go wrong. I've just been watching the rest of the lovely prog I recorded about the River Tay. A much needed, quiet, perfect piece of TV. Chilly here, but it's bright and dry after more rain last night. All a bonus. I don't expect the temps will get up more than a few more degrees, but that suits me fine. I'll get out later for a walk.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
@D0rdogne_Damsel you are so busy all the time, making & bakeing I wish I still had the energy. Now we are not cooking for the family so much ( they finally have a kitchen) it's great to be able to suit ourselves again, & do something simple but tasty.
Belated Happy Anniversary @Allotment Boy. That sounds like a delicious meal. I think that was a disgraceful way to behave towards your daughter @Lizzie27, but are they in financial trouble? Good to hear from you @Biglad, glad it wasn't because you were ill. Homemade marzipan is much nicer than the stuff in the French supermarkets @D0rdogne_Damsel You are becoming an expert in Christmas baking.
I'm going to sweep outbuildings today, will be dusty.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
@D0rdogne_Damsel none of us here like marzipan so my Xmas cakes are naked unless I do a glazed nut and/or dried fruit topping. We do, however, love almonds in other forms - ground in cakes, frangipane topping for tarts or baked fruit desserts, chunky nits in curries or tagines... Yum.
@Busy-Lizzie - hope you get to enjoy a lovely hot bath or shower after all the dusty stuff. @Dovefromabove have fun with your secret. Hope you get a good walk @Fairygirl . @Lizzie27 horrid for your daughter and shameful of her employer but, unfortunately, it's not an employees' market now and won't be for a while I fear. Some employers still regard employees as the enemy or to be exploited.
It is sunny here but cold as there's a northerly draught. Likely to get colder too. I shall go and entertain the chooks as I clear more weeds from the ex dahlia bed to sow broadies this pm. 5 eggs yesterday. So much for slowing down for winter.
Hope everyone has some sunshine - real or metaphoric. We need it.

"Morning" everyone -- late start here this am although if mr google doesn't come to my rescue I might ask on a separate thread re the best bits of my fig to stick in pots for cuttings! One ( small ) piece of good news from my end in among all the troubles that people and their families are having with their health -- I had a letter from the hospital after my scan saying my aneurysm ( location inoperable ) was stable in size vs 18 months ago. So that's a relief.
@Allotment Boy the meal sounded incredible -- ( especially, and perhaps this is me being weird) the samphire .

@Pat E I love tarrgon. This is one of my favourite recipes - https://www.deliaonline.com/recipes/meals-and-courses/mains/chicken-with-sherry-vinegar-and-tarragon-sauce but it's also good witha bit of Dijon mustard and cream to make a sauce for rabbit or chicken breast and I love it chopped up in generous quantities in a fresh green salad with poached salmon.
