It's a long time since I've been there, as I don't go into Glasgow often - especially the west end, but I've eaten there several times, and it's been part of the Glasgow culture for most of my life. I think many of these places will struggle. It doesn't make sense to me to shut down places which can properly 'manage' their customers.Â
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Hello folks, feeling a bit more like myself now after having my head manipulated early this morning but its taken a good few hours to stop feeling whoozy. Trying to work out how my new smartphone worked didn't help either -should have left that till later. It's much bigger and heavier than anticipated, is that because I asked for a big screen? Thought that would save me having to dig out my glasses before I could answer it.Â
I agree with you Fairygirl, most of the cafe's in N.Wales were very well organised, didn't go into any pubs so can't answer for those. Our hotel was quite strict with customers. Problem this, it's got to be a blanket ban because the powers to be won't know the good ones from the bad ones.Â
Ought to try a short walk with OH now it's stopped raining so will catch up later.
I don't understand what people don't understand about the need for limiting close contacts, keeping a distance, wearing face coverings and hand washing. I particularly don't understand going out in groups or meeting up with them and then taking infection home to vulnerable members of the family. Â
It doesn't matter how well establishments manage their customers if the end of result of eating and especially drinking is that they lose their inhibitions and ignore the rules once outside.  Seems to me there's a lot of "What if" to come and a lot of financial pain for many for years.
It's happening in parts of France too and yet here, where the population is generally older and not crowded, we have 35 cases per 100,000 and the R rate is below 1 despite being a major holiday hotspot with an influx of Parisians and others from big towns and cities inland and now children and students back at their studies and bars and restaurants open much of the summer.
On a brighter note, did anyone else see that report on the Beeb about the Russian mayor who was standing for election unopposed?  This isn't allowed so he asked his office cleaner if he could put her on the ballot to make it kosher and she was voted in. Brilliant.
Loss of The Chip would be a shame, first ate there back in the 70's, celebrated OH's PhD there in the 80's and went back two year's ago on our last trip up to Glasgow. Always a worry when on a nostalgia trip but it was just as I remembered it. They nearly gave me a heart attack on one occasion - I had ordered a decent bottle of wine within my limited budget but the bill was for 10 times that much! Turned out the wine we had and the one they charged us for had been given the same bin number by mistake.
Inspected the Alasdair Gray murals on the way to the loo, used to see him regularly at the postgrad club just round the corner which I helped run.
Where did you put his order @Hostafan1? In a suitable orifice?
Sideways I hope... Champagne. Aye - toffs are careless eh?
@steephill - it's that area isn't it? Near the Uni and lots of suitable eateries, pubs etc, and to suit all pockets. My BIL had a flat near there. It's really sad.Â
