Sorry your MiL will be having a rubbish 90th @steephill - hope she starts to improve soon so you can maybe celebrate 90+1month instead.
Huge hugs to @punkdoc - weāre all thinking of you š¤š¤
Iām going to visit an NGS open garden this afternoon. About 5 miles away, with a pre-booked ticket and a timed slot. Ā Hopefully will be easy to keep safe. Ā If it works I will be doing many more ......good to put some money in their coffers, whilst doing what I love šĀ
Hi gang.Ā Just had bacon eggs and beans for brunch cos OH is off to play golf in a bit.Ā Ā It's Mothers' Day here but you wouldn't know.Ā Possum only recognises the Belgian one and we've never bothered with the British one.Ā Poor old OH only gets one Fathers' Day between the three.
My beautifully planted first bed under the silk tree has succumbed to drought and couch grass and a mysterious weed with long, thick, orange/gold roots and stiff stems covered in sticky foliage.Ā Never seen anything like it.Ā Ā The only survivors are a deep pink spiraea, a sedum spectabile, some comfrey and some orange geum and teeny pinks which I have already rescued and potted up.Ā Ā OH strimmed the rest to the ground and, lo and behold, some geranium phaeum, hemerocallis and more comfrey have sent up teeny shoots after we had a spot of rain the other day.
I have thus spent my morning digging them out and potting them up to grow on and OH has made a start on forking out all the weed roots and stashing bulbs.Ā Ā It will then be planted up with shrubby stuff and phormiums and more sedums that can cope with dry soil and dappled shade.Ā Ā That'll keep me busy for a while then but first job this pm is planting out the rest of my toms and pumpkins.
Very pleased we don't get foxes in the garden @Fairygirl.Ā Lovely image but my strawberries are about to ripen their second flush and I'm not sharing them, except with OH.Ā
Morning folks, had a lie in this morning so just having my first coffee. Had a lovely day yesterday visiting family in Bournemouth, haven't seen the grandchildren since Xmas. So strange though not being able to hug and kiss them but we all kept our distance and laughed a lot of the strangeness of it all. They seem to be coping with lockdown well, son and DIL both working from home and DIL has had a big promotion. Eldest grandchild's school very on the ball. He has to log on at 9 am and do a full day's schoolwork, logging on frequently throughout the day. He's in the grammar stream so it's all very intensive, perhaps a bit too much so. Weather was rather chilly for sitting outside but at least it kept the traffic light. Quickest journey we've ever made! Probably just going to potter today as weather's looking better. Best wishes to @Punkdoc, hope you've got your music with you, no visitors must be rubbish. Good luck to @Dordorgnee_Damsel, hope the day goes well. Have a good day everyone.
@Fairygirl - large wooden garage doors.Ā Finished the 3rd coat this morning with some final touches tomorrow morning.
@Obelixx Hi there neighbour!Ā Yes, we get plenty of rain down here from time to time and then long droughts.Ā If I remember correctly, it was the same last year and then suddenly mid-June it became very hot from one day to the next with temperatures over the 40s at the end of June.Ā Ā
Always a silver lining - with this funny weather, some wild garlic seeds that I sowed some time ago have emerged.Ā Although it says on the packet to sow early July, Miss "Try-Anything" (aka: me) sowed a few just "to see"!!Ā I will definitely sow some more as they obviously like the spot I have chosen.Ā In fact, I think I will be cheeky and sow some watercress seeds near that spot too.Ā All will be well until end July/early August and we get the "heat" !!
Bit of a feet up now and then I will attack the weeds.

Not forecast but it's peeing down now.  Having difficulty imagining Béziers being damp @tuikowhai34 .  I have a yen for some of those little mincemeat pies from Pézenas up the road. Really good for apéro.
Hope your garden visit is a success @chicky and you get all your preps done in time @D0rdogne_Damsel .Ā Ā Get well soon @punkdoc and @Steephill's MIL.
