Those of us who aren't sugary sweet mums invariably come off worst in the 'Parent Comparison Stakes' for 50%  of the time .............. of course, for the other 50% of the time the youngster's friends are all saying, 'I wish my mum was like yours ... she lets you do anything' 🤣  so at best we can only be right half of the time ... if we're lucky and with a fair wind behind us.  ;)

Havent seen the start of this conversation, but I was like you Dove, married at 19, mortgage at 20. Just before that had a very responsible job in London, as a quantifier for a suspensded ceiling tile firm.Ā  Then we moved to Surrey, mortgage, but we had different priorities, then, no car, no washing machine, at first, just a burco boiler, then aĀ  spin dryer.Ā  Then a twin tub.Ā  Started my Nursing Training.Ā  Bought slightly bigger place, still 2 bedrooms, had second baby.Ā  No central heating, holidays.Ā  a Bike to get around seat on the back for my son, then an old banger.Ā  I cant imagine the young these days, not having washing machine, etc, and I used "proper" nappies for all my (4) kids.My oldest left home at 16, she lived in and worked on a stud farm, training BHSI, I used to go and collect her every weeked. All my kids had left home by 18

When I was 20 I was still at Uni, studying for exams, having meltdowns, leaning on my Mum for moral support šŸ˜€. She gave it willingly but was mighty pleased that I chose a career that didn’t involve any more exams. Ā  The phone bills went down then too šŸ˜› Didn’t get married and ā€œsettle downā€ til much later in life ....don’t think it did me any harm. Ā Horses 🐓 for courses, as they say šŸ˜‰

Confession time I HAD to get married! You did in those days, it wasnt like now.My 49 year old still leans on me.Went to a middle class friends 50th Birthday party, her friends were horrified that at 50, I had a 31 year old daughter, theirs were more like 13.

We've just been out there clapping ... think all the reverberations across the vale sent the local bat population a bit giddy ... they were zooming about all over the place rather than heading off on their usual evening route to the marshesĀ  :)

@Nanny Beach last year at patch group a new member aged 66 complained that her daughter was having her a baby at 42 and wondered how she'd cope when it was 20, 30 etc.Ā  I told her I was 42 when I had my daughter and it was great.Ā  She was amazed and, I have to say, none too pleased either.Ā  Never came again.

    Evening.
Just been sent a video of clapping from outside my hospital - police cars and ambulances all lined up and flashing lights etc. (I did think - back to work people!)

Had a lazy day today, mainly sitting under parasol. The reason for such laziness was that I woke up with a pulled muscle in my neck and it’s been agony all day. Big improvement tonight after a power shower.Ā

    Hope you are all ok.Ā
My garden and I live in South Wales.Ā

Well if anyone deserves a lazy day then it's you @AuntyRach.Ā  As a retired lab scientist I was never on the front line and glad of it, happy to be a "back room boy" all my career.

Great that the NHS is being applauded and that people seem to get a lift from making the noise and feeling together.Ā  Ā  I did like the reports on London news tonight of people saying thank you to bin men and leaving messages on their bins.Ā  Ā I hope it's not a flash in the pan and people carry on appreciating such service providers.
