    Hi all

Lovely sunny day here, after a heavy frost. Hoping to do a bit outside.

Ooooh that’s gorgeous @Hostafan1 ... and it doesn’t look ‘new’ ... looks very much at home. Is that ‘up the steps on the higher terrace’ to the left as you look at the bungalow with the lake behind you?

Indeed so. I'm looking forward to starting to train it.

Thought I recognised the spot ... it’ll look gorgeous with the lichen-covered seat in front of it.

Ive been out and filled up the bird feeder much to the relief of the gold and green finches. The blackbirds are helping themselves to the spillages and they’ve got chopped apples and wholemeal bread out there as well.
The hedgehog food is disappearing most nights ... I wasn’t surprised during the mild spell but we’ve had hard frosts for the last few nights. I wonder if a cat has found a way to get in ... I don’t want to stop putting the food out in case it is hedgehogs who are relying on it ... I’ll try to make the entrance even less accessible to cats ... we don’t usually get many cats in the garden but since the back fence came down maybe one has started visiting at night?

Can I have your finches and I'll swap you millions of squabbling starlings?

The Jays have learnt to use our bird feeders. This year is the first year they have managed, in the past they have tried, but never managed to hang on. Clever things, but frightening for the smaller birds.

@Hostafan1 we have a small family of starlings who live under the corner of next door’s roof. The senior male sits on the gutter and whistles to us in the bathroom in the morning. We love them. The house next door is empty and going to be sold ... we worry that the house (which needs a few repairs) will be reroofed and the starlings will be homeless. We may have to put up some starling nestboxes

Love those handsome jays @punkdoc ... what sort of feed are they taking?  Suet?
