@Liriodendron :) most of the time weĀ limit our news intake to the Today programme on R4 in the morning plus the bulletins on Rs 2,3 and 4 as we’re listening to the radio. Most days we don’t watch tv news... we find we take the facts on board without absorbing emotive images. This enables us to reflect and come to our own conclusions ... however we listen to/watch several political (small ā€˜p’) programmes as I think they enable us to contextualise Ā current events ... Jonathan Friedland’s The Long View is a particular favourite šŸ‘Ā

Good morning everyone.Ā  Another cold but not quite freezing day but grey with no sun.Ā  I'm off to machine patch class this pm then dance class this evening.

Dreadful news about the helicopter @Pat E.Ā  Don't worry about offloading.Ā  We know it helps us all to have an outlet.Ā  Keep safe.

How much longer for the building work @Liriodendron?Ā  And then the drying out before the painting and furnishing?Ā  Ā  My thoughts are turning to paint and brushes and rollers now the light levels are improving again.

Lovely thing to be able to do for your fellow MIL @Dovefromabove.Ā  Ā

    Hi all.

So sorry things are still so bad for you, @Pat E, really hope they start to improve.

Back pain is awful and guaranteed to make any bodies mood worse. Regular gentle exercise is the key and also great for low mood. Us sufferers do sometimes need a bit of bullying.

Sunny again today, so might get outside, although ground is still so boggy, I do wonder whether i am doing more harm than good.

Thanks so much for your helpful advice, @Dovefromabove and @punkdoc.Ā  Hubby has just been for a short wander to admire the new extension from across the road.Ā  Hopefully the weather might be more conducive to a proper walk tomorrow... but at least he's got outside, looked at something other than a computer screen, and talked to the neighbours.Ā Ā  :)

Re the news:Ā  his downfall is Twitter, which of course just reinforces his potentially quite biased point of view.Ā  We don't haveĀ telly connected at present, but he can still see the pictures on his computer, unfortunately.Ā  Having fallen out in a big way with John Humphrys on "Today", and with Laura Kuenssberg on news generally, he's very dismissive of R4.Ā  (Probably the final straw was the "impartial" reporter Alex Forsyth talking on the BBC news, before the election, about Boris getting "the victory he so deserves"...)Ā  And now it's the spiteful treatment of EU residents in the UK etc, which gives him sleepless nights.Ā  However, I'm with you, Dove, on the value of the thoughtful and considered analysis-type programmes on the Beeb, but he's still not keen.

@Obelixx - the plastering should be finished on Saturday, and then we'll have a while with dehumidifiers etc while the builder does work outside, on the path, soffits, gutters etc.Ā  Someone is also coming to insulate and board out the loft.Ā  As soon as the extension is dry enough, we'll be shifting boxes and furniture into it (though not OH, clearly - he can be the overseer!) from the rest of the bungalow, so the electrician can re-wire it and the plumber can fit the heat pumps, bypassing the old pipework... it's a bit of a nightmare, because we'll then have to shift everything back again so the new walls can be painted and the floor laid... hopefully I'll have the strength to haul a lot of music into the loft for temporary storage.Ā  Trying not to think too far ahead - though we've identified a cattery within range if it all gets too much for poor old Vera!Ā Ā

Right , I know I'm a very stupid person, but how can a company which has never made an annual profit be worth $100,000,000,000 ?
