    Always amazes me how many folk spout their hatred and bigotry and call it religious belief.

    The trouble with that sort of religious belief is the people who spout it. Jesus Christ was not bigoted and wanted people to love and accept each other, various examples in the Bible like the good Samaritan and the stoning of the adulteress. People have twisted his teachings and given Christianity a bad name. We are all God's children (if you believe in God) no matter what colour, creed, sexual make up, race etc and as such we shouldn't even think about discrimination we should accept and care for each other as though we are all of the same importance, which we are. I feel it is very wrong to forbid people to marry and have a loving, sexual relationship just because they are gay or mixed race  or whatever. Everyone has a right to love and be loved.

    Not apologising for all that, the things Margaret Court has said has made me angry. I suppose she thinks she's perfect. What a lack of respect and care for her fellow human beings.

    @Busy-Lizzie  smile 😊

    MC’s sort of religion is only about making rules and controlling other people so that you can feel superior. If Christianity is about anything it’s about being kind, loving, tolerant and putting others first. Not about belonging to some sort of exclusive club. 😖

    Yes @Dovefromabove , that sort of Christianity is the sort I like, the kind, loving, tolerant sort.

    @Hostafan1, yes, I read about that yesterday, I felt really disappointed and let down. OH and I are practising Christians but for various reasons, mostly financial and to do with French inheritance laws, we didn't get married in the Mairie in France, although we did the religious bit. So we aren't legally married in French eyes, so I assume that we come under the heading of unmarried heterosexuals.

    I've been lucky enough to have traveled a bit and met many wonderful Christians, Muslims, Hindus , Buddhists  etc etc and they have all exhibited great love and tolerance, but there are some within these groups, and others,  who seek to use their religions to a different end.

    I don’t need a bishop’s permission about who I choose to sleep with.  Someone on R4 this morning pointed out that piece of Pastoral Guidance from the C of E mentions the word  ‘sex’ 49 times and as for the word ‘love’ ....... it doesn’t appear once.  Think some folk are obsessed ... and it ain’t this blissfully co-habiting couple. 🥰

    Given the long history of sexual abuse and exploitation by members of both the Catholic and Anglican Escher I find it a bit rich that they tell others to abstain, despite being in a loving relationship.  Astonishing really.

    I am a devout atheist and I know I'm not always as patient as I could or should be but I do believe in tolerance, compassion, understanding.   Not always easy in some cases.
