  • I am afraid I have been at the cooking brandy again and all before midday too. Scale insect on the Moth Orchids again, given that they don't seem to move on the plant how do they get into the house?  :s

Set off rather late this morning - bad night again - to follow our plan of DIY shop, lunch, SM, freezer shop and GC so did lunch first in a place that specialises in galettes (savoury buckwheat pancakes) and crêpes -  sweet, wheat flour pancakes but thinner than the usual UK ones.   Very tasty.

Thence to buy paint and a new bell for our front gate as nobody who doesn't know they're really daft can get past our 2 bouncy, barky, noisy dogs to come and ring the doorbell.   Success with those then SM where there were no spring onions!!  Chinese/Korean/Vietnamese NY tomorrow for heaven's sake.   Will have to make do with chives if the local shop has none tomorrow.

GC is far too expensive to buy plants there except for the kale and Savoy cabbage plus I found but I did finally find some solar lights for the garden that aren't made in China.

Started off very cold and grey but it's been a sunny pm and we got up to 11C so not too bad and afternoons are definitely lighter for longer now.

Hope your nightmare ends soon @Pat E.  I can only imagine how stressed you all are.

Hope you've had fun with chicklet @chicky.   I love pea and ham soup @Dovefromabove.  Almost as good as lentil and bacon.

TGIF for all those who are looking forward to the weekend off and hope it goes OK for all those who have to work weekends..

We had planned on going to the SM then doing some gardening as it was quite a mild day. But it didn't work out.

    Two bothers.

Smaller one - a deer, OH saw it, jumped over the wall into the flower garden and has eaten the violas in the pots, loads of them. Also all the rose leaves within reach, not serious as it's winter. OH has been putting a fence on top of the wall. First time a deer has jumped it but it's only about 4 feet tall and 6 feet wide there and there are bushes behind it.

Bigger bother - while we were in the SM an idiot drove into the side of my car. But he had the goodness to wait for me to fill in the insurance form. Then he found the insurance card in his car was out of date and his driving license was at his house. In France you are supposed to have them with you when driving. I took down all the details he could give me, phone, number plate. Then, later in the afternoon, he rang me and said he had the necessary and could he meet me to fill in the form together. I think many people would have just driven off. The one who hit OH's parked car leaving a dent drove off. It is a nuisance though as I will be without the car if the insurance pay for the repairs but the garage should lend me one. I felt sorry for him as he will lose his no claims bonus which means his insurance will double next year and he told me it was only third party for his car so they won't pay for his repair.

@Obelixx I'm surprised you can find spring onions in your SM, ours never has them.

Sympathies on the deer problem BL, we seem to be running a deer sanctuary here but the only areas I fence off are the productive bits. Watching them raise their new fawns next summer will make the damage more bearable.

Bad luck on the car but full marks for the culprit owning up and doing the right thing, very decent behaviour in the circumstances.

That's a huge pain about your car @Busy-Lizzie and t'other chappy too but that's the risk when you drive a car on only 3rd party insurance.   Sally is 12 next month and also a 3rd party and given the costs and delays of getting a new Harry who was fully insured we have to be very careful about careless bumps and scrapes and idiots.

Bummer about the hungry deer too.

I can get real spring onions occasionally but not consistently.  I can also get those young fat green onions most weeks and they have the right flavour but none at all around today in Leclerc at Olonne.  OH is going hunting tomorrow.
