    Good morning everyone  :)
The sun is shining which makes a change from yesterday,  there is a bit of a cool breeze which we might be grateful for later on!
@nultyphilip224 that first photo of the swan and cygnets is absolutely stunning, in fact they both are. The reflection in the water.....beautiful.
Also Foxy Molly amongst the ferns, and the orange rose. They really get my day off to a good start, and glad to see that Nora Batty is still hanging on in there.

The dish is empty with one cat biscuit left as an act of defiance (or possibly a tip).
A busy day, supermarket, parents visiting (hope MIL is in a better mood, don't think Philip could post enough beautiful photos to help me there o:) ), then this afternoon a visit to the dentist for a check up. Deep joy, although to be fair he is a nice man, and the hygienist is....okay.

Hope @Valley Gardener @Purplerain and @Fran IOM all have a good day, enjoy the sunshine  B)

Good morning all. Gorgeous weather here and it's going to get really hot in the garden. I watered all the pots and baskets late last night so that should see them through until tonight.

I was reading back on the posts and wondered why you were talking about a cotoneaster @nultyphilip224 and then I realised it was my mistake. I meant cordyline.
    This one:
You can see it's struggling after 5 years in the same pot so it needs a new home by the sea. Glad your itch has gone at last, and I must agree with @AnniD that the swan photo is fantastic. I love the one of Foxy Molly smiling up at you. What a special little dog.

Good luck at the dentist Anni, and look forward to reading what you have been up to @Valley Gardener and @Fran IOM

    Good morning to all.....finally.
So much has been posted it's hard to know where to start.

@Fran IOM first..... I hope you're both still enjoying your break, those cats will be pleased to see you,but then knowing what cats are like they may just turn their backs and pretend not to notice youre back, it's punishment!

@Purplerain very interesting about the Ladybirds,I've only seen one this year. Good luck with getting the Cordyline from the pot, those shaped pots can be a real pig,try and dig down in first to release the pressure from under that lip. I managed to break mine removing a Pieris.

@AnniD Hope things are well with your OH.
Good luck at the dreaded dentist,I think the cleaning is worse, but it has to be done to keep teeth into your old age, the dentist I used to go to,died recently aged 78,and had all his own teeth still.
Hope mil is happy today,it helps doesn't it?

@nultyphilip224. Lovely pics again,oh how I love those cool ferns, especially the Harts Tongue, the lilys look gorgeous do they smell?
Your little boat looks great,I expect you spend a lot of time out on it if the weather is clement.  We know Lyme Regis well, being Dorset folk. We bought our boat from Portsmouth by sea to Poole harbour, but it never left the harbour after that. You need a spare engine just in case,to get back into the harbour, too much responsibility with children on board. Nasty currents where the chain ferry crosses.
Well OH has just arrived with more blocks,so better go and check he has 50 factor on his nose, and is hatted!  Very hot day here, but with a fair old breeze blowing.

Back from dentist/hygienist a swift £150 lighter for the 2 of us. 6 months until we see the dentist again, but only 3 months for the hygienist 🙄.
I spent most of the time while she was trying to drown me, thinking about you lot and what you were up to. I suspect you were probably having a better time than me !!

@Valley Gardener MIL in a better mood today, she has another eye operation tomorrow and wants OH to do some gardening in between dropping her off and collecting her again (this is really to keep an eye on FIL). He's asked me to come around so that he can cut back forsythia and weigela more than she wants, and tell her that l told him to do it ! Fine by me, they really need it, and  it also means l can get down behind the greenhouse where there are least 2 pots full of irises   B) .
Hope your OH has his hat and several applications of factor 50, he will need it!

@Purplerain , l wondered why you'd have a cotoneaster in a pot, l agree with VG, if you can loosen the soil around the edges with a hand trowel ,it will help. It can be a bu**er to get plants out those shaped pots. Not as bad as an Ali Baba shaped one though (the voice of experience).

@Fran IOM you certainly picked the right time  B)

@nultyphilip224 , l hope you are also enjoying glorious weather, l'd be very tempted to scoop up Foxy Molly and head off in the boat  :)

    Enjoy your evening everyone x

@AnniD glad the dentist went well, hope the shrubs got a good haircut too.

Too windy to do much today, but on cutting back a gold pyracantha, I found one little branch had rooted,so that's been planted on the other side of the garden, near the boundary. Pleased about that as it was a "special" one.

Still no sign of the poor Harts fern, its like watching paint dry!

OH got on well with the terracing blocks, didn't overdo it,as it was so hot he was in by lunch time.  A little each day.  I'm already hinting about putting pots down there!

    Hi to all of you.
Just to let you know I am trying to keep up with you all but will have to wait till next Monday to read back and comment on any postings. Beautiful weather and a lovely cool breeze so it doesn't seem too overpowering in the heat. Not too sure what tomorrow will bring. Feel somewhat tired though. Only have the one cat and if he doesn't eat he will become dehydrated as he relies on the jelly for his liquid intake as he doesn't drink water or milk. Very strange cat. Won't know either if my allotment cat is still visiting. Very likely as she loves this type of weather. Looking forward to seeing new growth when I get back. You are all certainly getting on with things and hopefully I will be able to comment individually next week.

Enjoy this lovely weather although it may be too much for a lot of gardening you can just sit and admire your handiwork and class it as "mental gardening". Will try and keep up with you all in the meantime.

Good evening all. What a day! 28 degrees in the garden with no wind and still very warm out there. I didn't do much except spread the sandpit sand around to get rid of any dampness then put the lid back on. Exhausting lol. I laid the hose down in the borders and moved it around occasionally. Doubly exhausting! I can't get wifi in the garden so decided on a book called Practical Gardening, and a newspaper clipping fell out. It was dated June 23 2002 and it was Charlie Dimmock telling us to sow seeds for next year. Quite interesting and probably why I kept it.

That is an expensive visit to the Dentist @AnniD and I hope you don't need anything extensive in future. Is that Private prices? We still have some NHS dentists, but they seem to change all the time. I hope you manage to nab the irises 😉.

The laying of blocks sounds very promising for some new pots @Valley Gardener so grab the opportunity when you can. Your gold Pyracantha looks very nice (I looked it up) so that's lovely that you now have a free one.

Don't worry about the cats @Fran IOM they are very resourceful little things, and although they will miss you they will be fine I'm sure. Is it the hot weather making you tired, or are you just doing too much?

What have you been up to today @nultyphilip224 ? I can't wait to see what little gems you have filmed today. I hope your weather has been as good as mine, as the plants just love it.

Enjoy the rest of your night everyone.

  • Good Morning,..well it is 12.30 on Friday morning lol.

Yesterday was a disaster of a day for me,..seeing i had to be somewhere at 07.50 and couldn't set my Phone Alarm for some reason,..i decided it was best to stay awake,..which i did with no problem,..when i returned home i decided not to have a sleep but instead took Foxy Molly for a long walk,..it was a scorcher,..managed to cover about two mile along the river but in places where there was no breeze the air was so hot it was hard to breathe it in,..by the time i was half way home my legs were not too steady,..was it the heat or a combination of no sleep at all for 24 hours?,..i was shattered for the remainder of the day,..as Foxy Molly would say,..not fit to wag my tail lol.

    @AnniD,

Delighted you enjoyed the images of the Swan and Cygnets,..they always look beautiful creatures and i never get enough of watching them.

Ah yes the Norah Batty seems to be standing more straight of late,..perhaps it picked up the vibes that i was considering giving it the chop,..i didn't do anything to assist it except for the Coconut Fiber.

Ohhhhhh i don't envy you the MIL visit,..fingers crossed she is in a good mood,..visiting the Dentist is not something i like so i wish you luck in that direction and hope its not a costly visit or painful.

Paid a visit to LIDL on the way home and purchased a Harness for Foxy Molly,..there was only Black or Red,..i picked the latter as hairs wont show up as much as on the black.

Very helpful having a small dog pull me along today.

First bloom from this rose this year,..its the second LIDL purchased rose given to me some years back and just tagged ''Patio Rose'',..i class it as Pink?.

  • @Purplerain,

Ah so its a Cordyline and not Cotoneaster,..its bigger than i imagined,..i would free the soil around it and as deep as possible,..wetting the soil as well,..get someone to hold the pot while you pull the plant up and out,..better still get someone to do the pulling while you hold the pot lol,..oh i do just that myself calling a plant by a different name and do it quite often with other things,..having a conversation about a fishing net needing floats and said they were selling them at 10 shillings each,..i wondered why everyone stopped talking and were staring at me,..we have not used Shillings for years and years.

I only mentioned yesterday about the Hydrangeas needing lots of water,..mine were drooping this evening and had to be revived,..i will need to water them again tomorrow,..something friends have said to me,..they understood plants shouldn't be watered in full sun,..i had to explain its the foliage shouldn't be watered that watering the roots was in order.

Very intense sun today and images are not as good as a result.

First image is the Rose ( Rosa 'Peach Sorbet Melt' ),..in the background are the second type of rose produced from this bush,..i traced where the change starts from and surprisingly its not at the Crown but half way along the stem.

The second type of rose that blooms.

    General View.

  • @Valley Gardener, and never be bothered coming back once the dogs were with me

The Asiatic Lily blooms give off a good scent,..some others one has to be up close to get any scent,..one lot i have wafts all over the garden and its intoxicating,..one would keep sniffing as if it were never to be experienced again.

I don't spend as much time on the boat as i used to,..i would head off maybe three times a week and never be bothered coming back once the dogs were with me,..now i never seem to have that time as i have too many other interests.

So you know Lyme Regis very well,..small world,..the man who owned my boat named her ''Jellyfish'',..i never changed the name,..my instincts were that it didn't seem right.

I will have to send you some Harts Tongue Ferns,..i was casting some away during the week as i had far too many,..they really do look well in a garden.

Rose petals are all over the place.
