Good morning all. Damp here, but warm, and it must have been heavy overnight as the taller plants are looking floppy. Got the day to myself, so heading to the hairdressers shortly and then not sure what to be getting up to. I enjoyed having small boy, and small girl also arrived yesterday with Mum. They keep each other occupied so that helps. I made a list of ten things they had to find and collect in the garden and as small girl can read, that kept them busy for ages. It was an idea I saw on a gardening prog for kids and would recommend it.
@AnniD I had a google about Phormiums and the general idea is to do it in Spring as splitting them in Autumn can lead to rot. I suppose if you want rid of it you could do it anytime. I once had a Pampas at the back of the garden and it took two strong men to dig it out so I don't envy your task.
@Valley Gardener I like the colour of the wall as it really freshens it up, but what was the thing the neighbour moved? I am rubbish at acronyms lol.
@Fran IOM I hope you are enjoying the allotment and I see you are still buying plants 😀. I wasn't going to buy any more, but...Home Bargains had some lovely big healthy box balls for £9.99 so I got two. It makes up for the ones I missed out on in Homebase, and they look great so I don't feel guilty.
Well, that's enough of me rambling on. Hope you are well @nultyphilip224 and I am missing my Foxy Molly fix, so come back soon. Have a lovely Tuesday.
Good Morning all. Very dull start to the day with drizzle and fog but supposed to brighten up this afternoon. Had rain overnight but couldn't have been much as no puddles evident. @AnniD You probably have more pots than plants. Do you take them indoors or wash them with the hose outside? Yet another SGC email but haven't looked at it yet. Haven't decided yet what to do with my new space created. As it's the first thing you see when you walk in I had better make it good. Just remembered that I bought a bag of bark at the weekend and it's still in the boot of the car as we can't lift it! Waiting for an able bodied family member. The two plants I bought in the pound shop were Phygelius and Escallonia. When you buy a gardening magazine you look at the price and wonder if it's worth it whereas when you pay by direct debit you are inclined to forget the price and if you change your mind you have to remember to cancel it! @Valley Gardener Hope you are happy with the results of your painting and any rain didn't affect it. Have you decided yet on a trellis or otherwise? I am sure you are able to find any gardening answers in your magazines no matter what year they were printed. Know what you mean about the car etc on the back of a St Christopher. My cat just decided to wash between his "toes" and found out how sharp his claws were and gave up! Don't suppose it will stop him using them on me. Hope Cush is in good health. Great Gardening Challenge on channel 5 tonight at 8pm. Didn't see last week's so don't know if it is of interest. @Purplerain Would imagine you are feeling a bit weary with having the little one stay with you. Didn't realise I was lucky to have all the goldfinches visit. What birds do you mainly have in your garden? I don't like to encourage the ground feeders at the moment as my cat is spending a lot of time there and wouldn't like her to catch any. Have started to feed her now as she seems to be quite hungry and not looking as good as she used to. Another worry. @nultyphilip224 Hope you are enjoying whatever you are doing. Maybe you have visitors. Missing photos of Foxy Molly and Whisper. Will look forward to your return.
Now time to think of mundane jobs to do before the morning is over. Hopefully the weather this afternoon will allow some gardening. Nearly time to get the mower out again! Enjoy your day everyone.
Just back for another quick post. @Purplerain You were posting at the same time as me but got in first. You mentioned the colour of the wall that @Valley Gardener had painted and I thought "have I missed something?" as couldn't remember seeing it and then realised it was a PM! Sounds as though you are going to have a nice relaxing day. What a good game for the little ones. Did you include a snail? You got your box balls in the end. Bet they do look good.
Good morning all, a very quick one as we hope to get to the Heritage Centre to find out more about a very ancient coal pick, dug up in the garden, handle rotted away but the metal bit still intact. OH got his drill with wire brush attached, and removed the rust,so the plan is to find an axe handle to fit, then display somewhere. Will post pic later.I Hope your day goes well, Hasta luego

Have had a better morning than expected ! Went to Morrisons, looked at the plants, 2 hardy perennials for £3, picked them up, put them back . Got home to discover l'd been charged twice for a CD (Kylie's greatest hits, in case you're wondering !). Thought the bill was a bit steep at the time. Luckily, it's not too far away, so after (yet another) cup of tea, we went back. Luckily the lady who served me was still there and she remembered, so that was quite painless. Needless to say this time l bought the plants - OH's expression = 🙄. Gazania "Arizona Apricot" and Helenium Hoopesii. We also called in at the cheapy shop and bought plant food, birthday cards and yet another solar owl (OH = 🙄). Weather is very warm and muggy, so might stick to watching Wimbledon this pm.
@Fran IOM, re the pot washing, l use a couple of large trugs, one with soapy water (Morrisons cheap washing up liquid) and an old paintbrush, and then one with clean water just to rinse them.
@Purplerain , we were discussing the phormium removal over breakfast and decided to do it in the Spring. My plan is to split it and replant some of it, and then maybe pot up the other as insurance. That's how this one started, the other half went to an old work colleague of OH who has a massive gravel drive at the front of his rather posh house. It's looking rather splendid by all accounts! Good idea re entertaining small boy and small girl. My oldest friend has just emailed me to say that she is going to be a granny for the first time in January, so l shall have to make notes about entertaining little ones in years to come !
@Valley Gardener, look forward to hearing about the history of your find. All l ever find is lumps of builder's rubble 😁.
Oh dear The Heritage Centre was useless,a silly little girl who knew nothing, but wanted us to hand it over as they only had three there in different sizes! She got short shrift from us! Will persevere in trying to find its history. I want it to stay where it was found,a small pick meant the seam was only 2ft 9" imagine working in those conditions. I would rather it stayed as a tribute,to the miner who must have lived in our house.

I'm disappointed to read this thread maybe closed down after reaching 1000 posts. I can understand with some threads but why ones such as this with all the lovely photos and interesting posts. Can we still recap on this thread if it is sadly closed.? Or is it lost lost lost????
Good morning everyone Hope all is well with you all, especially @nultyphilip224 and co. @granma, if the thread is closed, you would still be able to read it, just not add any more posts to it.
Off out to B&Q in a bit, l could do with some more compost and we need a new watering can, one of the old plastic ones has split. Have a good day all. Laters x
