Morning all (nearly afternoon 😊). Hope all is well with you all. Much needed rain last night so l have been out cutting back, deadheading and planting. Just stopped for a tea break, no biscuit Glad you got your Christening present @Valley Gardener , poor St Christopher ! Sorry to hear he has fallen out of favour. Also glad you're back safe and sound @Purplerain. Just to make sure l mention @nultyphilip224 & @Fran IOM, hope you are both having a pleasant day. Okay, tea drunk, l am back out there . Laters x
A quick hello to you all, I've made my first job today painting the wall and gate. I had to cut back a lot of ivy to start with. Neighbour has moved the RSJ s that were on our side, with quite bad grace!! I made a point of painting around them,so he's just been out with his son moving them. I thanked him profusely and he grunted! OH made me go and thank him as he doesn't want there to be any bad feeling! I'm afraid that particular boat has sailed,as he's obviously very crabby about the whole thing!! Hey ho......I'm too long in the tooth now to worry!😊 Hope your day has been good everyone?
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
Good evening all. It has been another warm and sunny day here and I have been out chopping things back, weeding and potting on. I don't know if any of you feel a little bit jaded like me, but I feel like it is xmas having opened all my presents lol. Everything is blooming now with some things going over and after the big build up from February, the only way is down. Stupid, I know as there are still some surprises to come, but I always feel like this around now.
@AnniD I see that you have been out cutting back plants etc, with no biscuit. Well done!
@Valley Gardener nothing worse than a grumpy neighbour, but at least he moved his stuff. Save up for a high fence and you need never pretend to be polite again 😀.
Good Evening all. Never thought it would be this late when I posted today but have a new found energy from somewhere and if I had started on the forum this morning I would have let time go by. Was up at 6am yesterday and never stopped all day. That included a trip to B&Q and also taking the dog to where all dog walkers go so he could run off his energy and it involves a long walk. Dog walker doesn't come at weekends. Up at 7am this morning to watch Gardeners' World. Know what Kate with her wildlife garden means when she says it is her "happy place" and doesn't want to leave. OH took dog out so I could get on and after food shop I managed to get to the allotment. Even bought two plants in the pound shop as they were "alive and well" and even the lady who served me was surprised! Apologised to the strawberries as they had to go so that leaves me a lot of new space... @AnniD Can't remember when we last had a downpour so you were lucky. Good when it happens at night. We have had two glorious days. I can just see the flowers beginning to form in between the crocosmia leaves so it may not be long before I see some colour. Did you see the size of one Astilbe on GW? Thought mine were big but that was massive. @Valley Gardener Glad you managed to find a Christening present. Are you going or is it too far away? Maybe next time you will be able to get your Cordylines. What a miserable neighbour you have got. Did they get your permission to put the RSJ's in your garden in the first place? Did you manage to get the wall and gate painted? What colour? Think it was you who said you didn't see goldfinches when 90% of the birds who feed on the allotment are goldfinches. Strange how it is different in certain areas. @Purplerain Good to see you back again. I know what you mean about the "only way is down" as I was thinking this afternoon when looking at everything in flower before we know it they will have disappeared for the winter. We must appreciate everything whilst it is here or else we wouldn't do any gardening at all. You have had a lot going on so maybe tomorrow you will feel differently. They seem to mention ladybirds on the forum a lot and I only saw a few early in the year and have not seen one since and there didn't seem to be so many bees today. @nultyphilip224 Hope you have had a good day. The first plant I saw when at B&Q was a Sempervivum! It didn't state the species as it just said mix. Must say I had to buy it rather like the child whose friend has something they haven't got so they have to have one. Also treated myself to a Fiskars weed puller as I have a lot of those to get rid of especially on the outside plot. He wasn't a very good salesman as he said he would just dig it up. Just pressed something on the keyboard then and the whole post became massive. Saved to draft, went out and came back in and is now ok. Phew!
Will leave you all in peace now or else you may end up getting my life story. Have a lovely evening.
Good morning all. Another nice day. I will post pics of wall in pm when I've been out with the camera and paintbrush! Now decided that trellis would be overkill.....see what you think later.
Just had another peruse of all you've been up to,and looking at those lovely water meadows with cows again...... plus the drifts of white flowers, I can see where Frank Clarke got his inspiration. Have a great day all, will pm later.😊

Good morning everyone Not quite sure what today has in store, but my pile of pots for washing is getting quite big. Quite cloudy at the moment and Mr B is chuntering, but he seems to be getting ample supplies of insects etc. at the moment, and sometimes poses on the wall to show me ! Hope your painting goes well @Valley Gardener , look forward to seeing the results !
@Fran IOM , glad you've got your mojo back and had a good weekend. What were your pound shop bargains?
@Purplerain , l know what you mean about this time of this time of year , but we still have stuff to look forward to🤞
Wishing @nultyphilip224 and all of you a good Monday. Laters x
Good morning all. Early start for me again with a few minutes to sit down as the small boy arrived late last night.
@Fran IOM I can't believe that 90% of your birds are goldfinches! How marvellous! I am still showing people the photo (stock image) of the one who visited me. I wonder if it was too hot where it usually lives. I think there was a heatwave going on in Europe that week, and although hot here, not too hot. You are right about the garden, and we must appreciate it while we have it as that is what we have all been working towards. I am going to four open gardens this Sunday provided the weather allows, so that might inspire me. I also got Geoff Hamiltons, A Year in Your Garden for £1 in a charity shop, so that has cheered me up.
@AnniD saw a notification that you have posted but as I've started I will finish in case this vanishes. I hope you are feeling bright and breezy this morning 🙂.
Good Morning all. You have all got going early this morning. A start to yet another week. Where do they go to. Think it's going to be a cloudy day but as long as it doesn't rain should be ok. @Valley Gardener Will look forward to seeing your newly painted wall. If you decide not to have a trellis what would you do instead? No doubt you will be given some suggestions. @AnniD Have a few aches today after all my weekend activities but after my coffee I will no doubt start to get on with things. I left my pound shop bargains "over the road" so will have to take a note of what they were later today. Just the fact that they were alive and doing well was why I bought them and maybe not suitable for the spaces I have! I think some plants will have to go as they are definitely overcrowded in places or maybe just move some. I think a lot of plants may have been dormant last year and have suddenly decided to make an appearance as I don't remember planting them. Maybe I am nurturing weeds. @Purplerain No doubt you are busy with your small boy. He should lift your spirits. They do make you laugh. Yes, didn't know they were goldfinches till my son informed me. They hog the sunflower hearts whilst the sparrows feed on the fat balls. Such lovely colours they have in their plumage. Hope your visits to the open gardens give you food for thought and the bargain book. I often think if you saved a year's supply of your favourite gardening magazine you wouldn't need to buy any more as surely the info and advice would be the same from year to year? @nultyphilip224 Missing your posts but maybe you decided to go off in your boat with Foxy Molly for a break. Don't blame you if you did. Noticed there are now two Garden Gallery threads. The first one had 1.5k posts?? Second has 987.
Enjoy your day all and look forward to hearing about your achievements today.
@AnniD. I don't envy you the pot washing, but they certainly do pile up,and you wonder where on earth they all came from.....nice when they're done though, and stacked away for next spring. Hope you're feeling a bit more up to it now,and have caught up on sleep.
@Purplerain I hope you have a lovely time at the open gardens,I'm sure you will be inspired, and congrats on finding the GH book,I liked him a lot. Have fun with the little man.
@Fran IOM. Good luck with sorting out your plants across the road,I hope you can find suitable places for them all, even if it means a bit of a move around. You are so right about the magazines,I now just refer to my 2017 collection of assorted ones,GW,Garden Answers,Garden news etc etc. They just go over the same ground each season(pardon the pun). Of course you miss out on the offers, but if you have time to peruse them before buying........ Yes I got a manly Crucifix in the end,the St Christophers were very diappointing, and I didn't like the plane, bus and train on the reverse,Our Vicar blessed it last night, which was lovely.
Well I've got a second coat on the wall, and done my nails....not with Sandtex!
Last of all @nultyphilip224 Hope you're having a nice break away from us chattering women, enjoy whatever you are up to.
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
Good morning all Needless to say, the pots did not get washed yesterday - in fact l added to the pile ! Today is a second cup of tea job but l daresay l will get fired up eventually. @Purplerain l hope your young visitor is keeping you entertained ! It's always interesting to see the world through their eyes @Valley Gardener, glad things are going well wall-wise. Shame about the grumpy neighbour, maybe he is jealous of how good it's all looking @Fran IOM, don't go too mad after your energetic shenanigans. I have been thinking about cancelling some of my magazine subscriptions, they are all on direct debit except one so it's easy to forget about them until they arrive through the letterbox. They go off to the neighbours (at least 3) after l have finished with them, but l shall add sorting that out to my resolutions !
OH mentioned yesterday that the phormium in the kitchen bed is starting to take over. We have had the fun of digging out a huge one in the past and it's not easy ! I can't decide whether to do it in the autumn or wait until Spring, l think l know but would appreciate your opinions, including @nultyphilip224 Okay, second cuppa drunk - to be honest l could do with a third 😁. Have a good day everyone. Laters x
