Thanks @Purplerain . I particularly love the proud way the blackbird is posing ! Have come home for lunch but OH has been roped into helping neighbour with a plumbing crisis, so though l'd have a look around the forum for a while.
@AnniD Loved your comment about having to tell Philip that it wasn't a hedgehog in the photo! I did wonder myself. Your poppies are amazing. Mine are getting the chop today as the rain ruined them. Has Mouse returned yet or is he still on tour? Must be exhausted. Thought I might have been bringing a kitten home when outside the restaurant I thought I saw one running around only to realise it was a black baby rabbit. There was also a brown one playing around with it and they had some good greenery to hide in.
The above was posted hours ago when my daughter revisited so after a coffee she was able to take me in the car to shop and back which means I can buy heavy things I need and don't have to stagger home with them. Have just seen your photos and had a good laugh. I think you have missed your vocation. You should be employed to write captions for cartoons. Do hope your OH has good results on his next visit to hospital. Have you sorted out the iris you found and did OH tell you where he rehomed the frog? Hope he didn't take it home and place it in the Hog Hotel. Been to the allotment and got interrupted there as well. OH had a friend over and brought him to see me so didn't get an awful lot done. Think it's best not to plan your day.
@Valley Gardener Trying to fit everybody in before the day is over. Not keen on travelling on the boat if it's going to be rough. Have suffered from sea sickness a few times. I put those wrist bands on just in case but wasn't too bad a journey home. Did you manage to find those illustrations from years ago? Don't think I am much good on a ladder nowadays. Very wobbly. When I think what I used to do years ago. A plank across two step ladders to reach the ceilings and they are very high. Wallpapering from high up as well. Used to really enjoy it. Like gardening you can see the results and what it will look like when you have finished. Hope you are keeping OH supplied with cold drinks. Looks like some job he has to do there. Have any more frogs appeared yet? Don't know whether I believe the story of the "green people" but I imagine if you were fed the same diet of raw beans it could have an effect. Sounds too strange to be true.
@Purplerain Have you managed to release your Cordyline yet? I took my new purchases with me this afternoon but didn't get a chance to plant them out so brought them back with me. One of my Echiums is completely dead. I didn't expect it to last longer than this year but in the short time I was away it gave up the ghost. There will be quite a big space left when I dig it up so looks like I shall be going to B&Q next weekend. When I first went to the allotment yesterday there wasn't a bird in sight because all the food had gone. Even after I had refilled the feeders they still didn't appear but today they are back again. My cat was there waiting for me today and getting much friendlier rubbing around me. Had her usual Dreamies which she now expects. My son said not to feed her cat food as it might discourage her going home. Apparently my cat ignored the dog walker when she called whilst I was away when normally he can't get enough of her. When I have been going out to the shop he rushes to the window to watch me probably. wondering if I am going to come back. Enjoy your next few days.
Was going to pick up all the rose petals this afternoon but gave it up as a bad job. Would probably have still been there if I had carried on. Did a completely different job to what I had intended.
Will leave you all in peace now and hope you all have a pleasant evening.
Good evening everyone Weather has been quite nice today, got the irises potted up, hoping they will be rooted well enough for me to take to the charity shop in September, fingers crossed. OH came back somewhat frazzled from helping neighbour, knew when he came round this morning to borrow something ,that it wouldn't be a straightforward job! Have had some sad news, my cousin's husband has died (cancer), only in his forties .They knew it was coming , but it is sad. l last saw him about 20 years ago, he was a lovely man. As the funeral is on Monday, and dad wanted to send a card, l took a leaf out of @nultyphilip224 's book and used the same ecard lady that he does. Found a nice one that l have sent , so thankyou for that Philip as l wouldn't have known where to start looking otherwise.
@Purplerain, l don't volunteer as such at the Rescue. Obviously she needs people who can guarantee to turn up at the same time every week, the way things are l just can't do that, and l'd hate to let her down. She has closed to new admissions for the time being and admitted she was tired. She looked pretty shattered if l'm honest. I felt like her mum, telling her not to reopen until next week rather than Thursday. There are 2 other rescues relatively close by , so they all help each other out. She also has new volunteers starting, it's just a question of training them. I help by buying supplies, this morning we had dog food, cat biscuits, disinfectant wipes, puppy training pads (used a cage liners for the babies), and disinfectant spray. We also shred newspapers when required. I know what you mean about pricking out seedlings, it's so tempting to do them all ! I always feel so guilty when l put them in the green waste. My foxgloves are a long way from pricking out yet, the white ones and the free GW apricot ones are coming along, but no sign of Summer King or Limoncello yet. I sowed some more Summer King this afternoon!
@Valley Gardener, re: the Rescue, they have open days twice a year in Spring and Autumn, and sometimes have a stall at the local farmers market or a fair . They also have a collection basket for food etc.in the big local Tesco and collecting tins in the Co op where we usually get the papers. OH knows he'll never get the very small change back if l go in there ! She has done so well, setting it up from scratch and expanding from her house into a large shed and also a hospital shed (or Hosprickle l call it, sorry 😊). Don't know if l've said before but l was lucky enough to get a tour all to myself a while back, it was wonderful. I was struck by how black your soil looked in the photo, does it drain well ? Hope your OH doesn't overdo things.
@Fran IOM, the SGC email has arrived again ! Hope your day is going well and the cat hasn't pinned you to the chair😉. Enough waffling from me, have a good evening all. x
@AnniD I Love the pics of the same area but different creatures, yes baby B looks very proud of himself.
OH got his edging in, after a tussle with the rebars, very difficult to cut even with an angle grinder,so that's taken him nearly all day, plus having to dash off for a new angle grinder as a screw had snapped off on his old one. Tomorrow he hopes to get the old slabs jetwashed, that's the pile of them in the pic.
Yes the soil is pretty black, but that's from years and years of coal dust, even the pebbles in the river are black,it will come off with a scrub.
Anyway after a hard day out there,it was cocktails on the upper terrace.😁 🍹🍹🍹🍹
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
I am running very late,..its now 01.50 and i have to be up and out by 06.00 later so i won't answer all your posts now but sometime later in the day.
Very nice weather here so i was out and about most of the day,..Foxy Molly had her usual river walk,..Hedgehogs were here at 03.00 Tuesday morning and again this morning Wednesday,..Lavatera ''Barnsley Baby'' in bloom yesterday.
The visitors.
The resident Robin.
No image of Little B as i ignored her in the morning hoping she would break the habit of the friendly visit,..''Whisper'' left a baby female Blackbird at the door this morning,..one kill is enough.
Lace Hydrangea.
Getting close to a Mophead Hydrangea.
Foxy Molly.
Cooling off.
Catch you all later,..off to bed,..up again in less than 4 hours
Good morning everyone Hope @nultyphilip224 got up on time ! Lovely Lavetera, l don't seem to see them in people's gardens so much these days. Suppose they fell out of fashion . Such a shame about the female blackbird, let's hope Little B learns to stay away. Lol at Foxy Molly - I can definitely hear Madonna "Strike a pose"
Right, must get on, OH has hospital appointment early-ish doors and then after l've dropped him off (rush hour traffic🙄), l have hairdresser appointment. These luscious locks need to look good under the baseball cap you know ! Hopefully this will be his last visit 🤞 Have a good day all. Laters x
Good Morning all. A lovely sunny one. Do hope it's the same wherever you are. As I said in my last post of yesterday (think I was posting same time as Anni) I seem to have caught up with everything and exhausted my comings and goings. Hope Philip managed to get out at 6am after only a few hours sleep. As I have mentioned several times I have a line on the keyboard where the keys always stick and makes posting take so much longer. When I went away it worked perfectly and on coming home it is still working perfectly. Can't imagine what has rectified the problem. Maybe just needed a holiday. Maybe using different providers was the answer who knows. Sad about the baby blackbird Philip. Best to discourage your visitor to keep it safe from Whisper. Hope OH has good results at the hospital today Anni and you are pleased with your hair. @Purplerain will be enjoying her days off now.
Have to go out this morning and tomorrow morning so not much will get done. Plenty to do on the allotment. Hope to get the mower out for the first time this afternoon as the grass has grown quite a bit in the last week.
