Great to see you are relaxing and enjoying the beautiful weather with a cool breeze thrown in,..even with the cool breeze the weather can tire you out in one day,..too much of a change too quick,..i felt it myself today,..legs were not with me at all.
I am sure your Cat will eat when it gets hungry,..they are a worry when one is away from them but they surprise us how well they can cope.
Yes i agree its ''mental gardening'' weather,..sit back to appreciate the rewards we put in and enjoy those blooms,..enjoy yourself you deserve a break from your ''Secret Garden''.
Good morning all. It looks like scorchio here today, nice to get all the doors and windows open. I've no doubt the reconfiguration will continue today,I think extending the area down from the pond is on the agenda, plus moving a few slabs. It has to be done a little at a time once youre in your dotage! Anyway it's going to look better than a hardstand, and I would like to get the old block wall painted, and maybe some trellis. But that will be in a few weeks I should think, once the gravel and paving is down.
@nultyphilip224 I think it's a nice name for your boat, ours was "San Pol" we didn't change it either, but maybe we should have ......as it's meaning is Saint Paul! Boats are meant to be female. The Orange rose looks beautiful, what a fresh colour. You have lots of different roses that's for sure and I can imagine as you walk out in the morning the garden smells heavenly. Very good pic of the hog......must get a hole cut in the gate!
Hope you all have a good day, making the most of this glorious sun,put on your 50 factor and the old straw hats!
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
Good morning everyone @nultyphilip224, hope you are feeling better when you next log on. Sometimes we forget that we're not as young as we used to be (l am speaking for myself of course ). Glad you went with red harness for Foxy Molly, she is definitely a girl for colour ! Have to say, l am a little disappointed by the boat name, l was thinking along the lines of "Kon Tiki" or "Calypso"...."Jellyfish" doesn't really cut it for me, sadly! I believe it's considered unlucky to change the name though ?
@Valley Gardener, very sensible to take it easy in this weather, have to be honest l am not really looking forward to doing MIL's garden this afternoon, but it's a case of "While the cat's away"... OH has promised that we won't be there all afternoon, just long enough for me to tidy up a bit (and explore behind the greenhouse ) while he cuts the grass.
Hope @Fran IOM is also feeling better today, hopefully it's just the journey catching up, plus the weather.
@Purplerain, l think NHS dentists are as rare as hen's teeth these days (if you pardon the pun). I have spent enough there already this year, with one extraction and a crown. Think of the plants l could have bought with that money..... I was watching Charlie Dimmock on Garden Rescue, she still has that annoying habit of pushing her hair back from her face. I sit there muttering "Just tie it back, for goodness sake" - l used to do that when she was on Ground Force !
Anyway, must get on, hope all have a lovely day, and don't overdo it ! Laters x
Good morning all. I can't believe it was 9am before I woke up this morning, and I was in bed by 10.30 so not a late night. It must be the sun that is tiring. How you kept awake for 24 hours defeats me @nultyphilip224, so I hope you get some rest today if only for a few hours. I like the name jellyfish and although not a boat, I used to drive a red 2CV called jellymould. Calypso would have been nice, but you don't think of nice names at the time. I often do that with cats 😀.
Thanks for the tip about the cordyline everyone and I will take your advice about digging down and wetting it first. I don't want to lose that pot as I bought it in the Alan Titchmarsh "everything blue" days. Do you remember that, along with decking? I have moved on now to Willow, but I meant to say I spotted your black stool @AnniD and it looked very nice. Someone at Chelsea used black paint so black might be the new willow lol.
Gorgeous roses today @nultyphilip224 and Foxy Molly looks chuffed with her new harness.
Good luck with the garden @Valley Gardener and I am sure it will look lovely when it's done. I like the idea of fixing a trellis to a wall. Lots of opportunities then to buy climbing plants, not that we need excuses.
@Fran IOM Hope you are still enjoying your holiday and look forward to hearing about it all when you get back.
She has always struck me as quite a girl 😉, but a very nice one. Just to add, I agree about the hair, but it became her trademark along with the free and easy dress mode. She probably ties it back when away from TV producers.
Good afternoon all. How are we all coping with this weather? It is pretty hot here but think it's even hotter back home. It was cloudy and cool first thing so I wasn't sure whether this hot weather was going to materialise. @nultyphilip224 Glad you mentioned the fact that you could water the roots when the sun was out but not the foliage. I always felt that was the case so now I can water much more at the end of the day when leaving the allotment. I was going to mention at some time that I do not like the job of picking up the rose petals. Not sure if you bother but mine stick out like sore thumbs and I feel I have to pick them up but how. I pick one up and then another and the first one drops back again. Can't seem to hold more than one so have to get a container and pick them up one at a time. I think Foxy Molly is wondering when you are going to pick yours up. Do hope you have managed to catch up on your sleep. 24 hours without! I think I had done too much walking and also needed to drink some water as think I was dehydrated. Too many coffees. Also doing too much just before leaving with my son going back abroad. @Valley Gardener Sounds as though you have a lot to do in the pipeline but doing just a little at a time can be rewarding as you can see how it will be as everything progresses so take time out with a nice cold drink. Dotage? What's that? We are all still so very young (at heart). I didn't think Charlie Dimmock had "grown gracefully" from when she first started appearing on tv. It was hard to recognise her when she started appearing again. @AnniD Hope you managed to sort out the garden of MIL and found interesting things behind the greenhouse. My 5p Clematis is Hagley Hybrid Pink. We stay at the same hotel each year (like a second home) and the bedroom we have is the only one with a balcony so the clematis is out there having had plenty of water. There used to be so many rabbits in the grounds some years ago and more birds than there are now. Mostly wood pigeons. There is a magnificent weeping willow tree and three cedar trees. I couldn't guess at the height of them but they must be so old. @Purplerain You must have needed that sleep to not wake till 9am. We have had a lovely day so far today. One of OH's service pals drove down from London to see us. We then drove out and left the main road following a country road to see what we could find. We arrived in a lovely little village called Woolpit and had some sandwiches and a cold drink in the local pub. They had a beautiful outside garden with well established shrubs etc. I was looking to see if I could take a cutting only to come across a notice (You are being viewed on CCTV)! I have to confess I have even bought a cheap pair of secateurs hoping I may get the chance somewhere. If you google Woolpit, Suffolk you can see the type of buildings and there is quite a story being told as well. Wherever I have been people seem to be very keen gardeners. All lovely to look at.
Time for a break now as we are going out to dinner with our other friends. May even put some weight on which wouldn't go amiss. So lovely not to have to cook...
Good evening everyone. Yet another scorcher here today and my highlight was a goldfinch! I have never seen one or heard one before so had to google it, but it was eating the seed heads on the wild cornflower. Have any of you got them in the garden?
@Fran IOM I looked up Woolpit and read about the green children. What an interesting and beautiful village, but I don't think the spooky tales of aliens convinced me. I think they were living on a poor diet and came through a cave just like the girl said when she could speak. What do you think happened?
As Philip said, watering the plant roots in hot sun is fine, but it works best in closely planted areas to avoid evaporation. I am not on a water meter so I suppose it would be a luxury to those who are. I know I wouldn't leave my hose on for deep soaking if the cost was wracking up. Anyway, it's only in extreme weather that I do it.
I have just noticed that Monty is on, so wishing @AnniD and @Valley Gardener an enjoyable rest of the evening.
@Purplerain This I the first year we've had Goldfinches, several at a time, very tropical looking aren't they? But my favourites are the Bullfinches,Also have lots of Siskins, they're very tame, they can get to within a couple of meters when working in the garden, the one thing they all love are sunflower hearts, but I'll look out for them on the cornflowers too. No sign of any Robins though, perhaps they're more of a winter visitor.
Did you manage to extract the Cordyline?
Woolpit sounds interesting, must look at that too.
Well it's been windy again here but very warm, and it was nice to sit out before dinner with a glass of plonk. OH burned his elbows!
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
Very warm here today as well,..thankfully we had cloud so no intense heat,..humid i would say.
Moving those slabs is heavy work,.. i remember moving about four of them from one side of the garden to the other side,..to use as a base for the greenhouse,..i had to duck walk each one,..quick enough way once one got into the stride.
You are right about boats always referred to as female and given a female name,..unusual to have one with a male name,..there are lots with place names of course,..mine being ''Jellyfish'' and on river and lake seemed weird and raised many an eyebrow,..i could have changed the name but it just didn't feel right,..nothing to do with superstition,..anyway i would be more wary given it a female name,..first question would be,..who was ....? lol.
I was watering the garden tonight and was getting the scent of Snapdragons,..i never got that scent before,..these were sown in 2017 in the back garden,..bloomed in 2018 and most replanted to the front garden but leaving just a few in the back garden.

No Bra, and it would seem no gloves either.😊😊
