    Good Morning all.
Have to go out shortly so will be back later.
Enjoy our last day of sunshine I believe.
@Valley Gardener. Hope you are feeling better or managed to get a home visit from your doctor.

Turned up, got distracted, left again! Lovely pictures @nultyphilip224 , that's a beautiful old wall you have there.
Lots to do today, wishing everyone a good day. Fingers crossed for the doctor's visit.
Just to let you know that Mouse is okay, but no sign of Hedgehog again.  :'(
  • Good morning all.  Still coughing, but declined the doc offer from oh. I think I'm maybe a bit impatient! It's two weeks and a day,so not really long. Now have big bottle of Covonia to go with the Metatone!
Yes if you need a doc call out, they will come after morning surgery.Same day at the surgery you have to ring at 8.00am. Considering Wales NHS is supposed to be the worst,I think they've been amazing,I've had 2 emergency cataract ops (glaucoma) many physio apts, and injections in hips and shoulders, all topped off with emergency colonoscopy done on a Sunday morning. What a year! I've gone from a fit active person to an old crock!!   @nultyphilip224

@nultyphilip224, That Amarylis is enormous,so beautiful.

  • Ugh!!  I'm so annoyed,I wrote a bit to everyone, and suddenly,as I was about to press post,a flag came up saying something about the forum and I'd have to try again!! Grr.

    Anyway a long story short.
Anni I hope your hog soon returns, and you've got a real character with that Blackie.
Purplerain very nice seedlings,I wish mine liked that good......I love herbs amongst the flowers.
Fran .  Hope all is well at the allotment, and you're getting it as you want it.

I wrote a lot more than this initially, but thinking of you all, getting your knees dirty!

OH gone to Asda........cupboards are bare!!!
Going to use the yellow fluffy thing thismorning.....😀

  • @nultyphilip224, thanks for the video. I have managed to get germination and have included a photo below. Where I am perplexed is that I have always sown in a large, long pot, covered in cling film without thinning out. It failed last year so on reading up I saw that they should be sown as demonstrated in your video. Do I thin out and then move them into a long pot due to the tap roots, or thin out and plant out, or leave them alone?

You are doing very well and those seedlings are not leggy,..you could either thin them out now by holding them by the leaf and use something to to help them come out of the soil,..or wait until they get a tad bigger,..were it me i would prefer doing it now,..they wont have roots entangled in each other because they have the taproot,..so you are not in a rush,..either way use a bigger pot for the next move and any seedling taller than others can be planted almost up to the topmost leaf,..that helps the seedling to avoid being top heavy and therefore toppling over,..because of the threat of rain in the next few days be sure that if you are thinking of planting them out,..protect them well against Rain and Slugs.

Good afternoon all, distinctly cloudier today, but still pretty warm. Sieved 2 more bags of soil and washed 2 bags of stones. That was the lot thank heavens. It took us 2 hours to do tip run that would normally take 45 minutes. The queues were just ridiculous , perhaps naively we thought that now the school holidays are over it would be quieter, daft thing was that there didn't seem to be any reason for the holdup. OH helped an older gentleman with some stuff, they then got into a conversation about their cars as they had the same model🙄. I just thought about the scone l was going to have with my tea when we finally got home. We went mad and had jam as well  >:)
Hope everyone has had a productive day - @Fran IOM, the secret garden email arrived and l deleted it without reading, such an  o:)
@Purplerain well done on getting the parsley to germinate,  l have only succeeded once and that was years ago.
@Valley Gardener you have been through the wars. Sometimes with these bugs, as you say you just have to wait for nature to take it's course - it can be a pain though !
Forgot to say, l was checking over the charity shop plants, and there was a slightly nibbled edge on one of the hydrangeas. When l moved the pot slightly there was a dead beetle next to it, l checked over the roots and they seemed okay. It might just be coincidence,  but maybe the nematodes are working !

Good afternoon everyone. I was up and about early, but the weather is quite oppressive, muggy, warm and dullish, so I haven't done as much as I could have. I looked at the long range forecast for here and it doesn't look good, with lower temperatures and rain. Maybe it's just a lull for me, with perennials planted, annuals, seeds and cuttings under cover but not yet ready to go out.

@nultyphilip224, thanks for getting back to me about the parsley. I have thinned them out now and hope the future transplanting doesn't attract any carrot fly. I will put some in long pots and others directly into the ground when the time is right. I have read that it is unlucky to do this though ☹️ and that I should never give parsley away.

@Valley Gardener even though you lost your post, the fact that you even attempted to do one is good news and it sounds as if you have turned a corner. Thank you both @AnniD for the parsley compliments. There are lots of mad old wives tales about those who can and can't grow the stuff 😀. At least your little mouse came back and you still have Mr B, but it would be nice if hedgehog returned.

@Fran IOM I hope you enjoyed your last day of sunshine for a while and got productive. Keep that brolly handy.

    Have a good evening all.

    Good Evening all.
Another lovely sunny day but slightly chilly breeze but nothing to moan about. Only managed one and a half hours today but probably for the best. When you are doing all the things you enjoy doing in the garden you don't realise how much energy you are using and don't really feel tired until you stop! The time goes so quickly too. Dozed a lot yesterday evening but managed to stay awake for episode of The Widow. Don't know if any of you watch it but I am finding it very difficult to keep up with everything not to mention the violence.
@nultyphilip224. I hope you have forgiven Foxy Molly for nearly tripping you up. When I tripped over the hose I had no one to blame but myself. Talking about red collars on dogs - Buddy had a brand new one when we first got him (from my granddaughter) and never wore it so I put it in the charity shop. A friend's dog then sported a new red collar which had been bought at the charity shop! That thread was "Caterpillar Infestation" but pasts its sell buy date now. Looking at all your plants in your garden it looks like a 24/7 job. I think you have found the perfect spot for your new stone. "He" is keeping watch. My cat was asleep on my chair when I went to allotment today. She must have known that I had cleaned all the area out yesterday where the dead leaves had accumulated and then a good hose down. It's an area built higher than the garden, tiled and the cover is the privet hedge which my son trained to grow over the top. A very old table there and a few chairs. Nice place to do a spot of surveying. (One day I will produce photos)!
@AnniD. Are you telling porkies? Deleting the email from SGC? Mine is still there and I had a quick look at some while the dinner was on and searched heucheras to plant outside but they didn't have much choice. Liked the Astilbes and also the poppy. That reminds me that my "rare blue poppies" arrived today from T&M and I had thought they would be flowering this summer but no chance. Small plug plants with just two leaves so have potted them on for the time being. (Another free offer). Can't imagine the task of planting 150 tulips. It must have taken an age. Bet they made a good show though. At least Mouse didn't end up as a feline's supper. Hope you enjoyed your scone and jam.
@Purplerain. I think the change in the weather may give us all a break. I know we want rain but the fact we can't garden is annoying. Gives us the chance to catch up on other things indoors. Dug over the outside bed where clematis and honeysuckle are. The rudbeckia had such long roots but no sign of life. There was also another clematis which I thought I had lost but that had good strong roots and a little sign of life so back it went. Must measure it up next time to give you an idea of the size. Very narrow.
@Valley Gardener. You certainly have suffered this year but you won't feel like an old crock for too much longer. Hope you are no longer Old Mother Hubbard and OH brought back plenty of supplies for the cupboard. I dread losing posts or emails. With posting here every few lines I save the draft in case I get interrupted or press the wrong key. You can't get rid of it unless you "post". Just like now when my mobile rang!

Feel as though I have broken the back of my weeding. Need to go back to where I first began to get rid of the few that have reappeared so feel now I can start to tidy up which includes sieving more soil.

Time again now to watch "The Widow". Can't give up on it as I need to know how it ends which will be next week.

Enjoy the rest of your day.
  • @AnniD,..we had a small rain shower earlier this morning so i presumed that was going to be the end of the good weather,..i was wrong,..it turned out a beautiful day but the heat was overpowering,..Foxy Molly headed straight for the river to get a drink,..that's her heading away from me,..you can see her mooning  :).

That wall at the end of my garden is 179 years old,..it was part of the Church Grounds.

I walked everywhere today as like with you and OH heading to the Tip and finding a queue,..it was the same here,..everyone was out driving,..somewhere?.

It was great to be able to walk in the meadows today,..the first time this year seeing there was 2 metres of water on that area up to this week.

Pleasing to know that Mouse is well and out and about alas no sign of its partner.

  • @Valley Gardener,..so you declined the visit to the Doctor,..you might feel even better for that decision,..its nearly as bad as a visit to the Dentist these days,..on my last visit i just needed a form signed to renew my Driving Licence stating i had all my limbs and faculties and didn't wear glasses,..signing the Form cost £30,..then it was decided i needed an eye test,..reading the figures on a card,..£10,..then maybe you should have a blood test,..em no don't have the time,..it would have cost another £18,..talk about blood sucking lol.

Keep taking your own medication and recover soon.

We can all be old crocks from time to time,..though an old wine is best  :)
